Re: Yet another interconnect thread
I suspect you'll develop an appreciation for zoning when someone builds a pig farm next door to you... Zoning does allow a pig farm next door to me. But it doesn't allow a pig farm everywhere , even though—no doubt—there are private operators who'd love to put one in places the zoning doesn't allow.

I'll bet that on most days, most of those lifts don't operate.iRock wrote:I found a ski area with a higher lift to trail ratio than the fantasy map...except this one is a horrible reality! This will teach you not to complain about the overcrowding of Snowdon when the HSQ goes in!

Re: Is the Interconnect in Killington Resorts Plans?
I can't believe people are trying to defend a mountain shrinking rather than expanding. I think you're misunderstanding. A number of the shrinkage decisions were really deplorable. But having been made, for whatever reasons, they are not easily undone. Once you accept that capital dollars are finit...

Re: Is the Interconnect in Killington Resorts Plans?
For the last 20 years, Killington has been shrinking: Loss of the top of Ramshead Loss of the Northeast Passage Loss of the South Ridge Triple Loss of Lower Juggernaut When does it stop? When Killington has rightsized itself right out of existence? I'd like to see more signs of life than one new li...

I'm concerned that SP Land is not run by skiers. . . . From what I can tell on this, SP Land's plan only benefits themselves, while actually damaging POWDR's resort business from reduced visits and the rest of Killington's economy by reduced visits and pulling customers away from the existing busin...

I know you have nothing but contempt for those people, but the future of the mountain depends on attracting more of them.tyrolean_skier wrote:They are not new but they are on the map which means tourons will be skiing them.

Re: New Peak Lodge plan revealed....
Okemo took away the customers that cared about grooming and snowmaking quality. That's a totally different clientele than the Killington skier who wants a long season and steep terrain that has snowmaking. Killington doesn't have just one kind of customer. Every time I'm there, I see tons of people...

I feel as if we are still in a downward spiral. We have a number of Lifts that need to be replaced. Weather or not people are aware but the K-1, Skyeship, Cannon quad and recently announced Snowden Quad all need to be replaced. All we are doing are putting bandaids on the situation, more or less I ...

Re: $11 Million in capital improvment for K!!
I truly don't see them getting much winter business for weddings and conferences. It's a cold gondola ride up, and freezing walk to and from the peak lodge. Do you find this appealing to have your wedding at? How about hundreds of businessmen? I find that the view is well worth it, but the non-skii...

Re: The King of Spring
People who only have destination resort experience (or want to turn a mountain into a destination resort) have no idea what a "home mountain" even is. Most big mountains are both; it's only the ratio that changes. I mean, people here think of Vail as a destination, but like K it has regul...

Re: Sunrise Mountain (old school, to the bottom)
My plan to reopen it (not that it will ever happen) is as follows. . . . Well, you're right: it would never happen. Re-opening Sunrise at this point would require a substantial investment, and it would still have the same problems that led to its closure in the first place (poor access and a relati...

Re: What would you rather see happen at Killington?
Went to Steamboat in the 70's and over by Priest Creek chair (it may be THE chair) the lifty would hold the chair and as soon as you sat down you were off the ground. If you screwed up he would grab the chair, tell you to duck and let it go, hopefully missing you. He then told you to go to the back...
Re: Ramshead
A 6-pack at Ramshead isn't a crazy idea, though there are at least three big projects ahead of it (Peak Lodge, Snowdon HSQ, South Ridge). After that, I have no idea what Killington's next lift replacement would be. If I had to guess, it would be the NRT, which is pushing 40 years old, has had mainte...
