sunday cinco de mayo non-report

looked like a pretty ugly day on the hill. think LINY might have gotten out but you know it's a rough day day when 4 runs gets you on the leader board.

the 7 day looks like a rather wet. will be interesting to see what supe looks like friday as we begin the 1st of our "off" weeks.

Re: Superstar chair

We don't even know what the issue is other than possible service brake. We had a service brake issue and it took a month to replace and the lift was down the whole time. It's quite possible if they started to tear into it there would be no spring skiing so they are bandaiding it for now. Up until r...

Re: Saturday 5/4 Derby day

came out for afternoon shift as the sun was breaking through a bit. full-on by the close. good apre-hang. by end of day, thought supe bumps were biggest of the year. with the swarms on the run, it got a bit "uncomfortable" at times. skye lark actually bumped up nicely. lower did ski well b...

Re: Friday 5 3 24 report

spectacular day. bell to bell sun and skied bell to bell. lovin the half & half groom on supe. first run was the usual creamy surface on the groom side. held up for 2nds. with the warm nites, by 9:30 the supe bump lines were in play. luv skiing the transition as the bumps soften w a user friendl...

thursday 5/2 report

after a couple days out of town, the sun found her way home this morning. downright balmy at the bell. place was empty. so much so that at times had trails to myself. at the bell supe was a creamy delight. within an hour, the bumps softened and were nicely skied in. if rotd has any meaning at this p...

Re: Superstar chair

Funny…when we lived at Pico we skied over, went under the Ram’s tunnel, took the Snowshed chair to the Superstar chair and straight into Bear to meet friends there for lunch. Ironically the interconnect is there and usable in that direction. Gotta get the bus back from snowshed though. if you start...

Re: Superstar chair

The constant arguments about an interconnect are pretty hysterical in this context. Pico is open at best from end of December to the first weekend in April and we have seen that season as short at 1/6-3/15 in recent memory. In addition the interconnect itself is only viable on natural snow for mayb...

wednesday 5/1 report

as we turn the page from april to may, another not so pretty day. from the webcam top to bottom fog at the bell. got out around 11 and it extended down to preston's. when i left just before one, it was starting to lift a bit. lost a ton of snow. the two lower "slingshots" on the supe HW ar...

Re: May Day Fun Slalom 2024

no mention. not on the event calendar. seems like it's been a few years since they held it. at one point, they used to give a day ticket good for early season for entering, then they stopped doing that and so did the number of participants so bye bye. no drip this morning but the mtn's buried under ...

Re: Preston's pitch?

Thanks Skiadikt, I think I understand that description. So if I understand, it's where middle ovation ends right before lower ovation where you ski out to the right to get to S.S. From there to the bottom is P.P. I always thought it was the section to skiers left towards the bottom that's usually r...

tuesday 4/30 report

according to the snow report, the superstar lift is on a weather hold with no time estimate, probably due to thunderstorms in the area. was getting ready to leave for the mtn when it started pouring. think i'll be sitting today out. does look like the weather clears out shortly.

Re: Preston's pitch?

it's the lower steep section of superstar that starts just after the middle ovation exit. and yeah, the world cup broadcasters to provide color for their commentary referred to it as "preston's pitch" named after killington founder - preston pitch. probably some producer or writer came up ...
