Re: New lift planned

They would be smart to at least test the waters. Dopplemayr has leapfrogged Poma in reliability and in the case of New England, ability to deliver on time. Mount Snow was all Poma until Vail took over, now all Dopp. Seems that'd be important if they were to go about replacing a lift that runs late ...

Re: Sunday, March 24th report

Not sure why the groomers can’t be used to clear the lots. There was one in the skyeship lot around 7pm tonight pushing snow around. Very hard on the tracks, cleats, and ice spikes to have a solid surface underneath, particularly an abrasive one, when turning. Not saying it can't be done in a pinch...

Re: Historical trail closure patterns

If the March weather outlook doesn't improve in a big hurry this thread is going to become a lot more relevant a lot sooner than we want.

Re: mike on the snowmaking plan

Unless they have something signed already that's been kept completely quiet I would think it's too late at this point to order anything for installation this summer.

Captain Hafski wrote: Feb 4th, '24, 10:18 It slid because there is a "flat" layer of porcelin ice beneath the new snow. No amount of boot packing's gonna fix that as the packers will just slide down it as well.
Track packing is running a snowcat over it without tilling the snow, so it leaves deep scars in the surface.

Re: Wednesday - 1/24/24 More Lift Issues

No! Sum up all the lift ages and divide by the number of lifts, that would give you the average age. "assuming the rest are evenly dispersed in terms of age" is doing the work in that sentence. While obviously not true in real life, the hypothetical was a consistent replacement schedule. ...

Re: Wednesday - 1/24/24 More Lift Issues

Please someone correct my math, but the way I calculate it, with 22 lifts, if one is replaced every 3rd year, they will maintain a 66 year old lift age average. It would take a lift replacement every other year to eventually get to a 44 year average lift lifespan. Overhauling lifts complicates the ...

Agree about the Summit lift on North, but the North Ridge Express is incredibly efficient at accessing a lot of fantastic terrain with zero wasted traverses or run-outs. Top five lift in the northeast IMO.

Re: thursday 1/11 report

I give the groomers a C- for today. Yes there was r*in at the end yesterday, but they had 10 inches of fresh stuff to work with. Snowdon had obviously been groomed when the new stuff was still not set up, and surfaces had lots of frozen corduroy. It wasn't really 10" of fresh by time cats hit ...

Re: Expansion

If they wait for the perfect weather pattern they will never open down low. At some point it is simply a cost of doing business to put the snow down and then manage it as best they can from there on our.

Re: Expansion

North of Killington we made it through last week's r*in surprisingly well but this week is absolutely disastrous. Really disappointing the return of sub-freezing temperatures keeps getting pushed back.

Sugarbush 59% open Stowe 65% open MRG 50% open Jay Peak 77% open Bolton Valley 58% open Burke Mountain 46% open ...Killington 43% open K is lagging. Used to blow the doors off... A better comparison of the snowmaking system will come by seeing what those percentages are after Monday's weather...

Perhaps now that Killington has been educated they can teach Stowe the same lesson.
