Re: Real estate taxes are way up
Has anybody else given thought as to where they will end up after they retire. No Florida for me at this moment! West Portugal, Massholia. The boat slip is 0.7 miles. The beach is 1.0 miles. The mill rate is a bit below $10 per thousand. No tax on Social Security income. We have Avon CO to use in t...

Re: Real estate taxes are way up
It's a very good time to sell....... Yep. I just tossed the tax bill in the mail for the new owner. It went up significantly from last year. Even worse, it’s assessed at half of what I sold it for. Vermont is a 100% market value assessment state. When the town does their mandatory reassessment, the...

Re: Talk to me about Aspen / Snowmass
If you are an advanced skier, Highlands is the best of the bunch by far. Ajax skis much bigger than it's reported acreage, but the lift layout sucks Snowmass is meh in my opinion. Decent low angle trees, but that's about it. The little bit of steep terrain they have is very short on vertical with c...

Re: Closing Day Contest!
Vail opened on Friday just like Killington. They also have a far bigger COVID-19 problem than Rutland County. It’s way easier for Killington to operate than Vail. Lots of parking with no shuttles needed. Only two gondolas and there are three alternatives to the K1. I’ll go with May 2. I doubt there ...

Re: Anyone else ask for a season pass refund?
I’m having the same thoughts, but I’m guessing the mountain will close before that happens. Why would the mountain need to close? The resorts have a viable plan to operate safely. The state has no reason to close the resorts. Tighten up quarantine enforcement, maybe. The businesses that line the ac...

Meh. I’ll do the 7 day quarantine and test when the skiing is better than white ribbon of death and move up for the winter.

Re: Anyone else ask for a season pass refund?
At this point I'm figuring if my kids school goes full remote, I'll do the 7 day + test quarantine and move to Vermont for a few weeks and get all the value out of our passes during that time. I’m having the same thoughts, but I’m guessing the mountain will close before that happens. Why would the ...

Re: State Ski Area Guidance
Vermont can change the rules as appropriate. If they start seeing ski resort-related outbreaks, they can tighten quarantine compliance declarations and adopt stiff fines. If it’s $500/day like some other states have adopted with $20k fines for house parties exceeding the limit, an awful lot of peopl...

Re: Travel restriction ethics & the (partial) ParkWhiz solution
It didn’t seem to slow anyone down in the summer or fall. Vermont has no fines for violating the quarantine order. An attorney probably wouldn’t sign it but most people will just lie. I haven’t been at Killington since March. I intend to do the quarantine and test thing and move up for the winter on...

People were blinded by the fluorescent ski clothing so a lot dropped out in 87-88?
DUI tightened from 0.1% to 0.08% with strict enforcement so all those skiers had suspended licenses?

Isn’t that lift properly called the Moosecalator?
