Re: Skiing After a Heart Attack

In January of 1996, "out of the blue" I had mine...and it was a humdinger. All depends on where in your heart you had the damage. Heart Attack is medically known as "myocardial infarction" which really means death of heart muscle due to lack of blood (oxygen) supply. This dead ti...

Re: 10 Largest Ski resorts on Earth

To my knowledge, I am led to believe that the "Three Valleys" of France encompasses some 50,000+ acres(overall area) of skiable terrain and 183 lifts and over 600 km of trails and slopes (340 ski runs) and is therefore the largest "single" ski area. There are 4800 acres of "...

Was '14-'15 a "Once in a lifetime" season?

For us in the Northeast, I am told that we were treated to some of the most unusual weather patterns perhaps EVER. What was it? 88 straight days of below-freezing weather without ONE SINGLE THAW? I've lost count of the years that we'd get great snow, but within a few days, or perhaps a week, along c...

Re: Need help! I don't know how to drive a stick shift.

My '04 Acura TL is a short-throw six-speed manual. I wouldn't have it any other way. Stick shifts are fun, they make the car far more responsive, because even with paddles, you must step down gear by gear. With a stick, just throw it where you want it...and instantly, you can be in the desired power...

Re: NSR, David Letterman

Fact: When Bill Clinton left office, he did balance the budget. However, unless I am incorrect, our national debt was the lowest it had been in decades. In regards to: " That's up from 4.5 in 2007, the last year before the recession hit, and higher than it was in 2010, when the Obama recovery w...

Re: NSR, David Letterman

"Too bad he became a shill of the democrat party when he went over to CBS." No, he happens to HAVE a brain. It just takes one to recognize it. That's why "W" is so out there now, helping the Republican Party, beloved as he is. And Dick Cheney? Yes, a real staunch representation o...

Re: Radar on Access rd.

I've seen both State cops AND town cops radar within two miles of one another.

It's almost for certain...so be careful. They also pinch a lot of folks with DWIs. THAT hurts!

Re: Friday night drive??

I've done this round trip drive from NYC to Killington for over 35 years. I've made over 350 trips. If each trip averages 10 hours, that's 3500 hours driving; over 6000 gallons of gas. Over 180,000 miles. At $0.55/mile, that's a car cost of around $99,000. At $0.35/mile, then it's $63,000. My Friday...

Re: Pike's Lodge

The current Moguls restaurant sports bar is the very building that was once Pike's Lodge. Mr. and Mrs. Pike suffered the horrible tragedy of the loss of one of their sons in an automobile or motorcycle accident some ten or fifteen years ago. This changed everything for the Pike family. Pike's lodge ...

Re: Nice to see Chris Nyberg @ Pico today . .

Did not Nyberg also kinda KILL the MOGUL challenge by having Vt. State Police patrol property nearby Bear Mountain Lodge and restrict any drinking of alcohol outside the lodge? Was it Nyberg that severely diminished the turnout by charging for parking in Bear Mountain Lodge and forbidding any group ...

Re: Skier Death on Saturday?

I understand numerous interpretations of where the young man hit trees: 1) He was heading down High Road, and avoided missing another skier who was merging into High Road somewhere (Mixing bowl where High Road, Bittersweet mix just above where Low Road veers right toward Snowshed?) 2) He was heading...

Re: New South Ridge Lift

Management is saying nothing about a new lift. That could mean one of two things:
1) There ARE no plans to replace SRT
2) There are plans and they want it to be a pleasant surprise.

They are going to have a pretty good year this year...they may rethink SRT.

Don't hold your breath.

100 mph winds and temps dipping to -30 deg F? That's bordering on Everest-like conditions, (except Everest has much higher altitudes, of course) or certainly near Arctic/Antarctic conditions. You had better be seriously prepared for such conditions. She seemed to be knowledgeable about this. Yet wha...

Re: I'm looking forward to getting older at Killington...

Tremendous. This man, at 88 skis exceptionally. He skis better than many in their mid-50s. Pepi Guggenberger is turning 78 this winter, I believe, and he skis beautifully, with power and authority and grace. It's nice to see folks who are "on" in their years, still hitting the slopes and e...
