Jay Powder Day

Postby Guy in Shorts » Sat Apr 28, 2012 8:40 am

Reward for Jay crowd. 4 inches on the ground and snowing hard is the report from my crew that are working in Jay. Roads are not plowed very well and some big police issuse is happening in Hyde Park. Lifts spin from 10-5 and only $25 bucks to ski. Can I say again - Gotta love Jay.
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine.

Had a good time up at Jay this weekend, saw several K regulars. We drove up in a mini snow storm resulting in 3 to 4 inches of new snow and poached tracks all over. Blue skies both days, but temps hovered in the mid 30’s. The hotel scene up there is bordering on the surreal with the massive new Jay Hotel and TramHaus giving Jay much more of a western, big resort feel. At first I thought the water park addition was very strange and out of place, but it became obvious it’s a huge hit, particularly with families who have young children.

As for the actual skiing, eh. Two trails, both flat and fast, not the soft spring bumps we had at Killington or at Jay end of last season. Still great fun and the groomers made for more of a wine than beer apres ski.

Near the liftline, plenty of cover, but pretty flat. A mellow way to end the lift served season.

There was a rumor floating around that Jay could open again next weekend, but the staff didn't seem to take it too seriously.

^^ yea, heard same rumor - in same cases from jay employees (including woman at hotel counter on sun am)...last i heard was if there was enough snow left they would open this weekend.

of course nothing of the sort suggested on website...the official story is 'thanks for a great season' and 'we won't be skiing next weekend'

we'll see if tune changes around weds...

skiing was much more exciting off the tramside, saturday at least...will post link to pics tonite.
