New Use for Ski Tracks

Post by Stache »

I am sure there is a more appropriate "App for that".
But I used Ski Tracks in Cross Country mode to track my first outing with the correct sailing rig on my acquired Sunfish:

I guess it tracked me going up and down over 120 6" waves.

Love that area. Had a mooring and a dock on the upper end for a few years. Great lake for sailing as most power boats stay on the lower end. Does Dartmouth still have its Laser sailing club there?

The former Shaker Sailing Club, now Mascoma Sailing club, and the Dartmouth Club seem to be interlaced.

We have purchased a condo at Lakeview and have lake rights and a beach at the furthest southwest corner of the lake.

Somebody ditched the boat in the weeds behind the dumpsters.
Two sails with booms and spars but no mast, dagger board, or rudder and tiller.

First time out was with a dagger board cut from a piece of 3/4" plywood 9" x 48" and using a canoe paddle as a rudder.
Second day out I fashioned a better rudder from a rowboat oar in a 1/2" copper pipe hangar for a rowlock and I rigged the mainsheet different.
Sail was from my sailing canoe.
Canoe mast was 1-1/8" diameter, stuck it in a piece of 1-1/4" PVC inside a piece of 2" PVC that fit in the Sunfish mast hole.
Daughter took the video here:

Got correct Mast, dagger board and rudder & tiller last weekend.
We be having fun now!

You should check out this Yahoo group for Sunfish owners.

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/sunfish_sailor/info" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have two Sunfish sailboats, one from the 60's and one from the 70's

By the look at your rudder hardware you boat has the older style rudder.

Thanks.
Already joined that and some others too.

Also purchased The Sunfish Owners Manual by Kent B. Lewis (Meh, not so great a resource as him showing off what he has done).
Also purchased The Sunfish Bible (three books in one) a better resource but a lot of it geared towards racing.
What I have found out is that the boat is probably a 1971 or '72 AMF Alcort Sunfish, stickers on hull attest to name but not year of manufacture.
Gen 1 rudder mount was upgraded to Gen 2 with the 1972-'73 and later models.
Storage compartment in aft of cockpit was added with 1969-70 models with almost all of the first year's boats developing serious leaks and having to be replaced by AMF. So guessing mine is either a 1971 or 1972. I cannot find any hull number or serial number. Pre AMF there was a serial number plate mounted on the deck near the mast. Starting in November of 1972 a hull number was etched into the starboard side of the stern.
