She wasn't thrilled with her results today - she said it her post-race interview with NBC that she realized that she was not aggressive in Run 1 on Saturday and it cost her time. She posted this on Facebook about 8:30 tonight -

"
Moood.. not terrible, not excellent, just... solid. But inspiring skiing from many girls today! Congrats Tessa Worley, Nina Loeseth and Sofia Goggia! Thanks to everyone that came out to watch today, the crowd in Killington is amazing! Now, let's look forward to tomorrow. "

I was a good bit up supe when i watched her go by, evident by the crowd noise that it wasn't a great run. before climbing up past the "lower" headwall [humpty, they used upper and lower headwall in the printed program, i aint making this up] the sound quality of that 15k+ crowd was hair raising, i've never heard anything like that. Crazy loud for Mikeala's start, cheers rising -- then a big drop off for the finish. Very dramatic to hear it from above. Sooo frkn cool!! What a day it was! yeah HS, you really have your finger on the pulse here! what a joke.
"would you like fries with that?"

Today surely was special. K's first World Cup could not have gone better with Mikaela leading the way.

Mikaela said on NBC' s telecast that she was thrilled to race in Vermont where she grew up PLUS her Nana had never seen her race WC in person. Her 95 year old Grandma was there in a wheelchair at the finish - NBC showed Mikaela hugging her. Good story.

Latest article in the NY Time by Pennington who was in K-town this week:

https://www.google.com/amp/mobile.nytim ... e.amp.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

"By BILL PENNINGTON
November 27, 2016
KILLINGTON, Vt. — Pauline Condron, the 95-year-old grandmother of the Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin, had never seen her 21-year-old granddaughter ski in a World Cup race until Sunday. Condron lives in western Massachusetts, and since 1991, skiing’s World Cup circuit had avoided the Eastern United States.

But with dozens of family and friends in attendance at Killington Resort for the first Eastern-based World Cup in 25 years, Shiffrin won her 10th consecutive World Cup slalom on Sunday.

As was the case at the World Cup giant slalom on Saturday, the race on Sunday was contested before sold-out grandstands and a cheering throng that lined the hilly borders of the racecourse — a fan turnout that was among the biggest for any women’s World Cup race.

But more meaningful was the symbolism and the significance of where the celebration of Shiffrin, America’s next worldwide ski racing star, took place. Yes, it had been in what was once Shiffrin’s backyard, since she went to grammar school in New Hampshire and high school in Vermont. It was also the first step in a grander plan to reintroduce high-level ski racing to the Eastern United States, and not just at mountain resorts."

Also, on NBC, they reported that the Superstar course is a short one for for a WC event and was "compressed." The coach who set the gates for Slalom run 1 messed up and didn't have the required Minimum number of gates so he compressed gates at the finish which was the zipper chicane of 4 or 5 gates at the finish.

Doubt the WC will return again to VT for a few years until Aspen wins the WC championships again and the schedule opens up. Thankfully, Mikaela is only 21 so we have time for her return !

It would seem something needs to give in the WC schedule to get another NE event. That said, many of the international stars noted how great it was to have a crowd like this at a US race. I have no doubt FIS has taken notice of that and the ability of New England snowmaking to provide reasonable expectations for the ability to hold an event.

Big Bob, none of the above. Just a fan.

Nana lives in Lanesborough, MA (where Jiminy Peak is located). http://www.berkshireeagle.com/stories/o ... res,383303" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have been driving by her house on my way to Mt. Greylock for years without knowing it until recently.

Check out this from Resi Stiegler: https://www.instagram.com/p/BNUO2qxh8wH/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I don't think K could have made a better impression on the FIS World Cup decision makers to support hosting more races in VT. It also helps that Tiger Shaw, head of U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA), is from VT.
