World Cup
Sitting in my Aspen hotel watching the news before skiing and they announce that Aspen will not be hosting the World Cup next year and it's going to Killington. Has this been announced?

Re: World Cup
Just looked at the print version of the story and it says it "could" be moved to Killington.

Re: World Cup
So the FIS thinks a 45 year old lift and a lodge in need of upgrade warrants moving the race from Aspen, and mentions moving to (Superstar) with a 30 year old lift and a 60 year old base lodge?
I'm all for a repeat of having the World Cup here, but this comment seems a little odd.

FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis says a new lift is needed to replace one that is 45 years old and the conditions of the base area and a restaurant need to be improved.
Re: World Cup
The FIS Aspen crowd this year paled in comparison to the one here at Thanksgiving.
Most that come out for an FIS event aren't there to visit a base lodge.
This coming season may be K's best chance to lock-in another WC race.
They might get the same turnout and get closer to break-even.
Vail East will set it's sights on that the following season.
Their access infrastructure will hold them back for now.

SUPERSTAR (YAN/POMA) - The superstar quad was built by Yan in 1987. It was later modified by Poma in 1997 with
new grips, sheaves and line equiptment. It was modified by Poma again in 2004 with new chairs.

Re: World Cup
After just being in Aspen for the first time, I would have to say the amenities seem way better at Aspen compared to the K.
I did notice on a FB video that the crowd was much smaller at Aspen then at the K.
Might be some more lodging options at the K also.

.. amenities at Aspen Seem Better ? ..
That was no illusion.
To begin with, they have an actual town at the base, complete with historic landmark places of interest.
Only thing missing there now is Gretl and her strudel, although Bonnies is trying hard to keep that spirit alive.
True enough .. accommodations and adequate lodge facilities are a challenge for National Teams and Support staff.
As proven earlier this year, unless the WC venue needs to host speed events, K does represent a viable option.

Re: World Cup
45 yr old lift means a fixed grip (not that there's anything wrong with that), which is ancient compared to "recently" upgraded supe quad. granted our lodge is an eye sore.Mister Moose wrote:So the FIS thinks a 45 year old lift and a lodge in need of upgrade warrants moving the race from Aspen, and mentions moving to (Superstar) with a 30 year old lift and a 60 year old base lodge?

As regulars for a gazillion years, we all think the KBL lodge needs attention . . . ask someone who is here for their first visit and have great conditions - lodges do not matter

Hopefully, the Village construction won't start this year to muck things up.

Re: World Cup
Have family right next to lift 1A there which is what they use... it's about twice as bad as the snowdon triple... slow and a "double" that's really a single. Amenities at that base area are nothing special but it's really the only area of the mountain they can do it on.
Obviously other then that killington compares in no way to aspen. The locals out there have been putting up a stink for years now about that lift being replaced and that area being revamped... understanably. Would be cool to have it back here again and good for our local economy of course.
