HD, find a new job jet?
CT rep in the House posted party line vote regarding tolls on CT Highways. Nope, ain't gonna happen. Seems to be a minimum vote count to get through the house and the (F'n) Democrats didn't get it. SO, No toll booths expected to be back on CT highways.
Had they allowed the tolls you would be looking at entry and exit points on I-95, I-84 and I-91 along with Rt 15, the park way and maybe Rt 7 and Rt 8. Also additional tolls going through the state to make it like it wasn't a penalty to out of staters. Yeah, E-Z Pass might help but how many times do you find some moron looking for HD's toll booth in the wrong lane. They nearly stop and then cut over several lanes to get to the pay toll, oops. (Guilty when in a rental car)
So HD, what is your next career challenge?

You make it sound like a bad thing. The F'n Dems have screwed up this state beyond repair with their 'tax and spend' policies. Goodbye GE. Goodbye Aetna.Dr. NO wrote:CT rep in the House posted party line vote regarding tolls on CT Highways. Nope, ain't gonna happen. Look for 395 to get much busier as the trucks take that route to avoid them.
They claim they will never be put on cars but they refused to put that into the law.
No booths involved here, will be all auto like on the Tappan Zee Bridge.
Beware of fools & trolls here, they lurk everywhere.
Re: HD, find a new job jet?
As someone who lives along the 395 corridor in NE CT just can't wait for this to happen... Already enough issues on 395 with all the folks from Mass, NH and ME making the run down to the casino's on a 2 lane highway that has some pavement quality issues and design challenges. Can't wait until a more commercial traffic is added when RI kicks their tolls in for trucks....SnoBrdr wrote:We are getting tolls for trucks here in RI/Dr. NO wrote:CT rep in the House posted party line vote regarding tolls on CT Highways. Pfffft. The added traffic from tolls in RI will be nothing compared to all the traffic already going to Treehouse.DrJeff wrote:As someone who lives along the 395 corridor in NE CT just can't wait for this to happen... Just counting down the days until the new Treehouse facility in Charlton opens sometime this summer!! That one will be about 25 minutes from my office whereas the current Monson location is 55 minutes! Gotta keep as many extra trucks out of the general beer acquisition routes as possible!!

They are doing away with toll booths in NY, you won't need to slow down anymore as they will pick up your E-ZPass at highway speed now. If you don't have E-ZPass they will take a picture of your plate and mail you a bill. All NYC tolls are supposed to be like that within a few years, they already started.
Re: HD, find a new job jet?
That's how it works in MA and it's made the traffic somewhat better. Of course, they were suppose to eliminate tolls altogether on the Pike, don't see that happening.daytripper wrote:They are doing away with toll booths in NY, you won't need to slow down anymore as they will pick up your E-ZPass at highway speed now. They are talking about new tolls on 95 north and south, 128, and 93. Just to make things Faiya for everyone down here in Taxachussetts. The denizens of Snewton, Swellsley and Weston have suffered long enough with the Pike tolls.Coydog wrote:That's how it works in MA and it's made the traffic somewhat better. Re: HD, find a new job jet?
Most of that $7-9 bucks in gas tax you pay to fill up goes to things other than the roads and bridges so they need the toll money to pay for the roads and bridges. The law builds in the .18c federal gas tax and the 18c-60c state gas taxes into the price of a gallon of gas so people are not aware of how big the bite is! When the politicians say we need to spend big on roads and bridges most people do not know they are already paying big. States are hoping for a new federal infrastructure bill so they can divert even more of the gas tax money to other things. Penn is 68.7c a gallon, New York is 60c CT is 56c. So if you have a 14 gallon tank you are paying $7.84 in tax in CT every time you fill up. More in NY and you are paying all the tolls. I bet they actually make money for the rest of the government programs. Don't be such cheapskates and complain!

Re: HD, find a new job jet?
A lot of the states, especially CT, are hurting due to underfunded public pension obligations so the politicians are casting around for new revenue. A carbon tax would have worked well. Public sector unions have been pumping members dues into the state legislators campaigns that will give them the sweetest deal that the politician hopes wont blow up until long after he/she is gone. They always over estimate the returns of investing the pension funds to grow them. Often the pension fund remaining viable is based on 8% yearly stock market gains which end up not happening. Total corruption. The toll money won't go to the roads either.....it will stay in the state and local swamp

In Connecticut:

Re: HD, find a new job jet?
I doubt many of the truckers will take the 95 / 395 drive around. They pick up the toll road (MassPike) in Worster and that is an expensive toll road. Add on the additional cost in hours of driving and miles it is a no win situation. The trip through RI is busy, but a whole lot shorter than going North to end up East in Bean Town.DrJeff wrote:As someone who lives along the 395 corridor in NE CT just can't wait for this to happen...
