18 - Working for Uncle Sam saved a couple bucks as most areas had a military discount back then.

I was in my middle twenties when I first learned to ski at Mt. Snow during a long weekend trip with a bunch of friends. Did not ski a lot until we purchased our condo at Killington.

I started at age 3 in '72. We were part of various ski houses in Manchester area throughout my childhood. Once I was on my own and in college I couldn't afford to ski. But after I graduated, I worked my ass off and got right back into a ski house at K and have been a pass holder ever since. Prices were not any cheaper then. I just worked hard as hell and sacrificed to afford it. If you really want it, find a way to get it.

:like Me too ! was some awesome skiing West of Laramie, Snowy Range area. Discounted tickets and rentals on base made it affordable. I think I was 21 or 22 when I actually began to ski.

Started at Age 15. My high school had ski club, we went to 7 Springs PA twice a week. I think it was $10 to join club, and then $15 for a night ticket and rentals. Something ridiculously cheap. And yes the 45 minute bus ride with your girlfriend was nice, especially when she was cold on the way home 8)

I used to spend a lot of high school nights killing my knees at Mt Creek park.

We started the school bus trips in 6th grade. Little mountain in Putnam NY. Really good times. That was replaced by ski team racing in high school. There were a lot of really good skiers when I grew up. They became my first ski house partners. Some of which I still ski with.

My kid's high school has bus trips weekly. I encourage my kids to do it but they have been spoiled by Killington and don't want to ski southern NY hills.

In college back in the 70s we were required to become proficient in 4 sports. I chose skiing as one of mine. I went to school in Troy (RPI) and to make the winters a little more enjoyable, a lot of my friends were into skiing. So I tried it.

On Friday nights, for 10 weeks, they took us in a yellow school bus to Jiminy for lessons. The class was from 7-10pm.

I just remember it being so cold and dark. I certainly had no ski clothes back then.

But the first time they had us go up whatever lift it was, to the top of the bunny hill - similar to Snowshed - I remember being pretty nervous looking down the run.

But over time I mastered it, and it got me hooked.

And I thought it really was great the first time I ever skiied in the daytime. That was really wonderful!
