tuesday 1/9/2018 report

Post by skiadikt »

great day on the hill. though i had no visual sightings it could have been a shorts day. about an inch on the ground at the open. spent the morning running the snowdon triple hitting just about all the nat snow trails my skis could get to. highlights included an early jaunt down a virtually untracked [insert trail name here] which was runner-up rotd. the other nat trails in the pod skied well. thought low rider was the best tree run. throne had more junk than i cared for and was not a do-over. patsies has major interuptus from the bike trails. rotd was big dipper which had lots of snowmaking blowback from double dip. the needles area nats all skied great. given the heavy t-t-b snowmaking guess vertigo no longer qualifies as a nat but it skied well. as good as today was, thought pico on monday had better overall snow quality.

Overcast start with snow lightly falling in the 20 degree air. Mild temperatures had the college week crowd out in full force. Cascade kicked off the day where the groomers had tilled the surface back to a nice even consistency. Double Dipper was a untouched canvas of manmade perfection. A ski patrol person was fixing the rope line having to deal a long snow gun that had bent 90 degrees and was now a skiing hazard. Chatted with a snowmaker mid trail under the guns who reported that they are trying to get a thick blend that will stick well on the steep terrain. Told him that have it nailed as the snow that is coming out is perfect. Hit the first run of the year on Solitude as one of the wife’s favorite hideaway trails is now open. Enjoyed the 20 min stroll into the untainted beauty of the remote Killington woods. Rafter of Joeys planted mid slope on the last corner of Bear Cub before the bridge acted as a navigational hazard. Sunshine with mid temps on tap for Humpday.

Quote of the Day – Nice to get out of the box and back onto the chairs.

Beautiful day after sitting out the deep freeze this past week. Everything we skied at Bear and Skye was in good shape. Took a weekday opportunity to speed almost nonstop down Great Eastern, checking out the real estate as we went. An empty Cruise Control was a pleasure. Tomorrow is demo day for both of us as we try out some Rossis.

Mid Day Report: Another great one out there. Pretty much as others have reported.

Multiple laps on [insert trail name here].

Skied most of the same stuff as GIS and Skiadikt reported.

ROTD: Woods.
