One reason is that this is replacing the Rocky Mountain Super Pass which was unlimited at Copper and Winter Park and with the Plus version, included days at Steamboat and is going away. It is intended to be competition for the Epic passes in the Rockies. They don't seem care about the eastern market. Yet.Stormchaser wrote:But unlimited at Copper? What's that logic?snoloco wrote:It appears there is no add on rate. Also the Boston market is totally screwed as Loon, Sugarbush, and Sunday River are not unlimited. And Stratton is only unlimited with the more expensive Ikon Pass.
The Ikon pass will be the season pass as all the unlimited mountains but it won't be at the non Alterra mountains.
Out west it isn't unlimited at Deer Valley or Alta/Snowbird so Vail will still win the Utah market with the combined Park City on the epic pass.

Re: The Beast Joins IKON!
I'm guessing there's going to be an add on price.
THey also added Revi to this list - it was not on the original.

Re: The Beast Joins IKON!
Or it could be the worst thing. Candidly I hate their pricing model of super cheap passes and super expensive day tickets. I guess it works if you don’t mind the added crowd from the cheap passes and just want a cheap pass (remember the bronze pass from ASC days?). If you want to head somewhere for a weekend it stinks.HomeStretchFan wrote:

Re: The Beast Joins IKON!
I think this is correct. The Ikon is primarily intended to compete with the Epic Local in the Front Range market and is kind of a glorified RMSP+.PinnacleJim wrote:One reason is that this is replacing the Rocky Mountain Super Pass which was unlimited at Copper and Winter Park and with the Plus version, included days at Steamboat and is going away. Re: The Beast Joins IKON!
As a stunning data point, Vail Resorts sold 750,000 passes this season (!). IKON wants some of that.

I’ve been closely monitoring the feedback we’ve received regarding the Ikon Pass details released yesterday and I wanted to clarify a few items related to Killington’s passes and our participation in the Ikon Pass.
First, Killington will still offer its season passes, and info about our 2018/19 passes will be announced soon. Our Unlimited season pass continues to deliver the best value for everyday Killington skiers because it provides access to the mountain earlier and later than anyone else in the East, the best variety of terrain spread across our seven peaks, including Pico Mountain, perks such as exclusive opening day access, and discounts on dining, retail purchases, snow sports lessons, summer activities and more.
The Ikon Pass is not designed for Killington’s everyday skiers, nor is it a substitute for our Unlimited or Midweek season pass. Rather, it is designed to provide a different way for guests to experience Killington alongside a number of other phenomenal destinations throughout North America.
Second, the Ikon Pass was never intended to replace the MAX Pass, which was discontinued. When it became clear that there was not going to be the possibility of a like replacement to the MAX pass, and after weighing all of the gives and takes, I decided that it was a phenomenal opportunity to join in with Alterra on a multi-resort pass that provides access to so many world-class destinations.
We are honored to be included on the Ikon Pass with so many other amazing destinations and look forward to welcoming Ikon Pass holders to Killington beginning next season.
Think snow,
Mike

It sounds as if no add on which is unfortunate as that is the break point for me. No way we are buying full Killington passes PLUS full IKON passes.hillbangin wrote:SO NO ADD ON?????????????????????????????????

Even though the resort selection does not work as well for us, I still would have considered if there had been an add on option in the price range if the max add on.
As always though, we always appreciate the open and candid responses from Mike.

Interesting too... saw on Okemos Facebook page where they said they had not yet been invited to the IKON party even though they said they would bring the champagne.
Sounds as if Alterra it definitely driving the bus on this on as far as who they are inviting.

Wonder what the actual benefit to K is.boston_e wrote:Interesting too... saw on Okemos Facebook page where they said they had not yet been invited to the IKON party even though they said they would bring the champagne.

And is there a downside to them as well.

Re: The Beast Joins IKON!
Well the IKON pass is obviously not geared towards the Killington regular. I’d say the benefit to K is that it might drive a few extra people to visit who otherwise might not. Once they are here they are likely to spend at the resort on lunches / apres drinks etc etcSnoBrdr wrote:Wonder what the actual benefit to K is.boston_e wrote:Interesting too... saw on Okemos Facebook page where they said they had not yet been invited to the IKON party even though they said they would bring the champagne.

More so than did the MAX pass ?boston_e wrote:Well the IKON pass is obviously not geared towards the Killington regular. Or is it just a wash.

Re: The Beast Joins IKON!
Probably not, but from Mikes statement it seems as if the max pass was no longer an option, so it was either sign Killington up for IKON or nothing.SnoBrdr wrote:More so than did the MAX pass ?boston_e wrote:Well the IKON pass is obviously not geared towards the Killington regular. With the add on option that the Max Pass had, there was a tangible possible benefit for K regulars. Not so much with IKON. I can’t imagine very many people will buy a full K pass and a full IKON pass.

.. So .. the value proposition on a K pass is Opening day lift access to a stairway down to a trail. Got It.
Factor in a bike pass and the 'discount' angle .. may have merit for those who are tethered here.
