I don't think I can forget his Tea Party tirades about personal responsibility and living off the Gov't teet.

If the government is going to hand out money, whether to individuals or to corporations, why shouldn't one line up at the trough with everyone else?

Point well taken.

I have, as one who represented my company at one time on energy related regulatory and legislative issues and as one who has since represented other companies, argued against many programs that eventually came to pass. Once they did, my company lined up to take advantage of the programs regardless of what we thought of them overall. If we were going to have to pay into them anyway, we may as well get something out of them. We rarely, however, got back as much as we had to pay in and always felt we were right in arguing against them originally.

Yup. If you are required to contribute and are eligible to "withdraw" you have every right to do so if you feel so inclined.

On Schilling I wouldn't exactly call him a loser Though I am by no means a redsox or schilling fan he did have a bit of success with them. Mighta done a little something in Philly and AZ at one point too. Still, making fun of the arrogant douchebag and his drama queen bloody sock etc is good sport.

With half of all Americans getting some federal benefit it looks like most of us have taken the government up on the offer. Only 9 more years and I too can jump in and use some of those benefits that I have been paying for since I was 14.
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine.

The losers are the moron politicians in near-bankrupt Rhode Island. 11.2% unemployment rate. #2 behind Nevada. Meanwhile, Massachusetts next door has a 6.2% unemployment rate. All those decades of corruption have finally caught up with Rhode Island. Unless the state is handing out money, no business would dream of locating there.

If you're starting a company, you'll take money from wherever you can get it. ...particularly if it's loans where you don't have to give up equity in your company.

And particularly when you publicly rail against government handouts and then turn around to stick your own grubby hand out to snatch taxpayer dollars to finance an ill conceived business flop based largely on name recognition.

Curt Schilling is hardly the first person to play that game.

I don't think this is any more ironic than any other self-professed Libertarian who rails against government largesse but is first in line to receive their particular government entitlement. I used to be a Libertarian until I figured out that it is a political position based on greed. I'm now a Rockefeller Republican and completely disenfranchised by the right wing religious ayatollahs who have co-opted the Republican party. Bill Weld was the last Republican I could identify with.
