I was just reading an article about the original Clean Air Act passed in 1970 under Nixon and thought I'd throw these questions out to the masses. Some basic information to keep in mind: our population is waaaay higher than in 1970, vehicle miles have increased by 150% since then, economic output is 175% higher, and there's been a 140% jump in electricity consumption, all of which create increased pollution.
The Clean Air Act of 1970, the original law which was supposed to start us on the road to cleaner air, has now been in effect for 34 years. Looking at today versus 1970, is our air:
a) Cleaner
b) About the same
c) Dirtier
Are the current standards for NOX and SO2 being met:
a) Everywhere in the US
b) Only in rural parts of the US
c) Cough, cough....not anywhere I breathe
The standards for lead and CO are being met:
a) Not one county in the US meets the standards
b) Some counties but they're only in Red States
c) Some counties, and they're in both Red & Blue States
d) Almost every county in the US
How many CO violations were there during 2001 - 2002 in the nine non-attainment areas in the US?
a) Cough, cough....gotta be close to 365 where I live
b) More than 50
c) Between 20 and 50
d) Less than 20
