Lots of people work late. When I first got out of college I worked more 2nd shift, or 12 to 8, than the normal 9-5 gig. Even now, since we have to provide onsite support until at least 8pm, one member of my group sticks around until then. Doesn't make Mrs. Kahuna or Ty happy campers. Also do alot of midnight to 8am stuff.

So, back to the Night Line story on the SS system, is it in trouble or not?

They all whine about it not being funded, then state that there is no crisis. Yet, over the past 40 freakin years they have done absolutely nothing except borrow from it, extend payments and raise taxes.

Oh, and don't ever talk about the "trust fund" or "lock box". Only thing in either of those is a big ole IOU, starting with that wonderful statesman, LBJ !

I think by the time I retire (I'm 21) SS will not be as much help as it would be to the retired today. I think SS should be privatized and I think SS should be more of an issue than medicare. Just my $.02

Medicare and Disability Income are 2 reasons SS is broke. Until the late 70's or 80's, all 3 were on the same budget. It was never intended for everything it is now.

It would be nice to have a little SS $ coming in IF I ever retire...

But in lieue of that... Maybe I can just do a "Logans Run" or "Soylent Green" thing and off myself before I get too old and destitute...

I take the view that

1. SS will not exist when I retire and am planning to live off of whatever assets I can accumulate and by doing things that I love -- like flight instructing -- that don't pay particularly well.

2. SS is essentially armed robbery on the part of Uncle Sam.
