My neighbor's son is a lawyer and has worked for some politicians in DC. They want him to support gun control. His response is "Repeal the 2nd amendment or STFU" Think they can get a majority of states to repeal?

The only people affected by gun laws are law abiding citizens. People who are determined to break the law using weapons will always be able to acquire weapons. If all these gun control laws get passed, what do they expect people to do? Just hand over their weapons to the government? Highly unlikely

If guns are not the problem, then how come most of these types of incidents only happen in the good old USA? Are we t6he only country to have unstable people who love to shoot others?

not true obama is just a liar

Our ruling

Obama said after the church shootings in Charleston that "this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries. It doesn’t happen in other places with this kind of frequency."

The data shows that it clearly happens in other countries, and in at least three of them, there’s evidence that the rate of killings in mass-shooting events occurred at a higher per-capita rate than in the United States between 2000 and 2014. The only partial support for Obama’s claim is that the per-capita gun-incident fatality rate in the United States does rank in the top one-third of the list of 11 countries studied. On balance, we rate the claim Mostly False.
you can also take a look at chicago to see the effect of strict gun laws....

The data in your link is woefully inaccurate. From your link:
Over the decade and a half studied, the researchers found 23 incidents of mass shootings in the other 10 countries, resulting in 200 dead and 231 wounded. In the United States over the same period, there were 133 incidents that left 487 dead and 505 wounded.
There has been 297 mass shootings in this country this year alone. Just because many happen between gang members and the shooter remains at large doesn't mean it didn't happen and doesn't count.

perhaps you need to apply the same qualifiers to other countries as well. no doubt there are tons of gangbanger incidents, w 6000 plus shootings in 3 years in chicago alone. I'm not about to even attempt to verify the info from either source but I'm pretty sure that one is far more biased than the other and looking to make a political statement to benefit its ideologically driven agenda...
The Mass Shooting Tracker, a crowd-sourced project of the anti-gun folks at the Guns Are Cool subreddit, lists 203 mass shooting events so far in 2015. Add in the shooting at a Louisiana movie theater last night and you get 204. Incidentally, yesterday was the 204th day of the year.

The Mass Shooting Tracker is different from other shooting databases in that it uses a broader definition of mass shooting. "The old FBI definition of Mass Murder (not even the most recent one) is four or more people murdered in one event," the site's creators explain. "It is only logical that a Mass Shooting is four or more people shot in one event."
which most certainly explains the "discrepancy" you allege...

Why this happens more in the US is a good question that needs to be addressed asap and while guns make killing easier in some situations, getting rid of them is not a viable option because they are in the US DNA (constitution and rural roots) and there are so many of them that they will never be gone. It is just a political agenda that keeps that in the spotlight. Obama knows we will never get rid of guns. He is just pandering to his base. So the focus needs to be on the why not the how. If people want to kill, they will find a way. Remember that the biggest mass killing in the US was done with planes. Since Ft. Hood and other radical attacks are counted as gun violence, I think it is fair to count that, Oklahoma City, the nuts running people down with cars in city streets, etc. as examples non-gun violence. People will always find a way to kill people unless we outlaw guns, fertilizer, planes, knifes, cars, pipe bombs, clubs, brass knuckles, toxic gases, anthrax … The question is why is it happening so often in the US? Religious or fundamental radicals which the US tries to prevent from attacking, and physiologically impaired which we don’t. Why? The ACLU (liberals) won’t let us. It would cause a stigma that would prevent them from seeking help. Good point but we are stuck. Sandy, Aurora, this latest guy were all known wackadoodles. I don’t think even the NRA would object to making it illegal for those guys to have guns. Maybe they would but that would be an uphill battle with their membership. It’s the ACLU and similar liberal organizations we need to get out of the way. They are who makes it hard to impossible to track the mentally impaired. They are as inflexible as the NRA. If Obama really wanted to help, he would get the ACLU (and he can influence them much more than the NRA) out of the way and keep guns out of the hands of the mentally impaired. Why don’t we ever hear that? Nut with a diploma = no gun. The liberals.
And video games. Ya, I know. But I just don’t think that it’s good for a 14 year old to play thousands of hour at pulling a trigger at anything that moves and watching heads explode. It desensitizes and makes them think along those lines – particularly if they are wackadoodles to begin with. We had violent movies 40 years ago but no video games. Spectator vs participant? I don’t’ know but that is something that is a clear change.

Here's a question: If we believe violent video games desensitize and influence those already prone to violence, are we also to believe that porn movies influence some to rape?
