Trump victory is the end of the line for Obama judicial nominees
WASHINGTON – Donald Trump’s victory in Tuesday’s presidential election makes it unlikely that dozens of President Obama’s judicial nominees will ever take the federal bench.

Fifty-nine of Obama’s nominees to the federal courts still haven’t been confirmed by the Senate. Thirty of these have already cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee and are awaiting a vote on the Senate floor.

Three of the pending nominees — Julien Neals of New Jersey, Mary Flores of Florida and Edward Stanton III of Tennessee — have been in limbo for more than a year and a half.

Senate Democrats point out that all of then-president George W. Bush’s nominees who had cleared the Judiciary Committee were confirmed by the Democratic-controlled Senate before the end of his presidency.

But Senate Republicans, who now hold a majority, are not expected to give any of Obama’s pending nominees a vote now that Trump will be taking office in January — not even Stanton, who has the backing of Tennessee's Republican senators.

“I can’t imagine that, with the change in government, any additional district judges will be confirmed,” said Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn. “I don’t see any possibility of any additional nominees (getting confirmed)."

Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., said the next nominees the Senate considers “will be nominees by President Trump.”

The nominations have been held up for months because of a partisan squabble. The most high-profile nominee in limbo is Merrick Garland, who Obama nominated in March to fill a U.S. Supreme Court vacancy left by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia. But dozens of others also are awaiting confirmation to federal district and circuit courts.

Democrats argue that Republicans have been dragging their feet on Obama’s nominees, hoping to run out the clock so judgeships could be filled by the incoming president. A report last year by the liberal advocacy group Alliance for Justice charged that the pace of judicial nominees confirmed under the GOP-controlled Senate is the slowest in 60 years.

Republicans say that’s not true and that the Senate has traditionally stopped confirming judges in the final months before a presidential election.

“Democratic majorities have done that in the past, and Republican majorities have done that,” Alexander said.

If the nominees aren’t confirmed by the end of the year, their nominations will be sent back to the White House.

Even with a new administration coming in next year, there’s still time for some of the nominees to be confirmed, said Glenn Sugameli, founder of the nonprofit group Judging the Environment, which closely tracks judicial nominations.

“If both Tennessee senators want Stanton confirmed this year, as they have consistently urged, they should be able to obtain a vote,” Sugameli said. “There is no reason to force yet another delay for a renomination.”

Trump could renominate some of Obama’s nominees, but that’s unlikely because Republican presidents usually fill such posts with members of their own party.

Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., who recommended Stanton for the judgeship in Tennessee, said he’s disappointed Senate Republicans won’t allow a vote on his nomination.

"Politically, they won out,” Cohen said. “They’ll get to name the judges.”

Look at the source. CNN one of the most irrelevant of the totally irrelevant press.

Trump Is a manager, not a politician. Managers put the best people with the required skill set and experience
In position to accomplish the job at hand. They then expect to get the results they outlined. They don't interfere and rely on their judgement that they out in place the person that would get the job done, no excuses no explanation.

If being a manager was easy everyone would be doing it, they're not.

As to these requests for Security Clearances for his children and Kushner.
Yeah that's prudent and customary. :dislike
Trump will not honor the restrictions of a truly blind trust.
From the start and to the end, it's all about the Trump brand.

People squawked about the alleged Clinton corruption.
Which swamp is more toxic, the covert or the overt one ?

Guiliani in the SoS role is plain lunacy.

Agree, keep the kids out no reason for them to have clearance. Catch a heavy children of the corn vibe from the boys. He needs a blind trust like Bloomberg had while NYC mayor.

Much of the land DC was built on was a swamp and had to be drained to build the city. It will be drained again. :like

your assessment comes from wishful thinking, how'd that work out on nov 8? laughing at those of you who constantly see success as failure simply because it isn;t the "success" you wanted...Trump has already had more success in 8 days than obama did in the last 8 years...If ya don;t wanna get run over by the trump train ya better get off the tracks...

Carson is not a bright guy. Don't like Cruz, but he would be good to balance the alt left, butt not my first choice.
If Trump's kids want to run the empire that would be great. I thought the plan all along was, "My children will run the business". Of course you can put real property in a blind trust. It just means Trump does not run and is not informed while he is in office. Maybe one kid gets clearance to work inside the administration. But, no more Humas (working for government and private which have overlapping interests).

I am not trying to get "top level security clearance" for my children. This was a typically false news story.

did you see the 60 minutes interview? NONE of his kids will be part of his administration...
