Eric Greitens, a Navy SEAL & Rhodes Scholar was raised a Democrat, and believed the Democrats were the good party, the party that helped the little guy.
He is no longer a Democrat.
This is the voice of the Democrats that didn't vote for Hillary last election. If Trump has any success where Democrats have failed, the Democrat Party will need to remake itself into a new vision of how to best help the little guy. They will be less able to claim they are the sole arbiter of compassion and outreach. They are already less able today. Results matter. It’s not that I doubted their intentions. But good intentions are easy. Even easier when you’re spending other people’s money. But they’re not enough. To actually achieve meaningful results, you have to have good ideas, discipline and accountability to go along with it. The problem is that most Democrats seem to think more money and bigger government are the solutions to virtually every single problem. They’re wrong.
If Trump is not able to claim success with the VA, with immigration, with health care, with education, with jobs... then the Democrats will likely hold onto much of their current playbook in the next campaign.
But I think change is the more likely outcome. The Democrat platform of 2020 is not going to be Saunders, Clinton, or Obama.
