A beautiful late April snow fall around Denver disrupts global warming protest:

Actually snow at the wrong time of year is also indicative of a man made global warming crisis that can only be solved by radically increasing energy costs and collectivizing the populating in high density dwellings kept under the watchful eye of experts! That will ensure Americans use less energy and help to fatten up the bank accounts of third world dictators who will be getting 100 billion in agreements like the Paris Climate Accords that the US just signed under the great President Obama. Meanwhile while we grow weaker economically and militarily China India Russia and Iran will grow stronger and they would never do anything bad would they? I mean the US are not the good guys in the world with our history of genocide and slavery and all peoples and cultures are equal after all and if we are nice to other countries they will be nice to us.

Snow in the front range of Colorado into May is not unusual, sometimes even blizzard conditions.

I know this type of post often gets moved to the political board from the main skiing board however it is very much skiing related. If the Democrats who are totally allied with the "keep it in the ground" radical environmentalists get their way then as Obama had said "Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket,". What do you think happens to the cost of your lift ticket in the energy intensive eastern skiing market? Resorts will eat some of it to not destroy demand but will also have to pass some of the cost along to customers who are the real payers of any business tax. The motivation for the "crisis" is UN models that predict catastrophic global warming which are consistently proven wrong by time and cannot be successfully back tested. In fact the keepers of the models try to keep their raw data secret so other actual scientists cannot test their models. The warming alarmists often used "adjusted temperatures" which are always adjusted higher as time moves forward. What is this all about? Well one of the "solutions" to alleviate the predicted catastrophic consequences of global warming is for developed nations to send billions to the 3rd world. Like that will help the people! Global wealth redistribution from successful cultures/countries to failed cultures/countries.

Democrats will not make skiing illegal or driving long distances or having the heat on in your house at 70 degrees they will simply make it so expensive you will have not choice but to cut back. All in an effort to reduce man made global warming when 2 of the other main emitters of CO2 (and FAR worse actual particulate emissions!) China and India will simply not agree to any mandatory cuts and those they do agree to will simply cheat. Unilaterally crippling our economy will not help the situation. I think there is a general recognition that man is influencing the environment and technology is continually being developed to improve efficiency and develop alternative energy sources. Fracking for gas has allowed the price of gas to drop so that it is competitive with coal and can be used on a mass scale to generate electricity with reduced co2 emissions. Of course the environmentalists want to eliminate that as well and Hillary Clinton was intending on a nationwide fracking ban. Solar and Wind are only efficient about 30% of the time and cannot provide the reliable base load energy industry requires. Maybe if giant batteries become economical their energy can be stored for later use.

There's over 100 pages in a global warming thread. That would've been a good place for the first post and subsequent discussion.

GSKI - a few things

First, purely from an economics standpoint, alternative fuels (especially solar) are going to be the way to go.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... s-to-solar" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

China and India are already on board with this reality.

China has already become the largest producer of solar power in the world.

http://www.digitaltrends.com/cool-tech/ ... ar-energy/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They are investing $360B in renewable energies by 2020

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/05/worl ... .html?_r=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

India is investing $250B in the next five years

http://www.thenational.ae/business/ener ... five-years" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And Tesla will be delivering the large scale power storage batteries for industrial use that you discuss.

http://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-po ... r-energy-2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

None of these realities point towards a situation of skyrocketing energy costs that for the purpose of this discussion will raise lift ticket prices. It sure looks to me that economic opportunity is what's driving investment in renewable energy more so than the global warming debate.

Massive government subsidies and tax credits are driving the economic "opportunity". Democrats have been very open about driving up the cost of energy to make alternatives more viable economically but that is only true in fantasy land. Also, you must not know how the majority of energy is generated in most countries. Renewables only seem to make up a high % when hydro is thrown into the stats. At least hydro is reliable for base load energy. Solar and wind today are losers today. AT some point the technology will mature and be viable but for now it is not and government forcing mass adoption of immature technology will be very economically painful. Usually for those will less resources not rich ideologues.

Renewable energy technologies are maturing faster than you think.

And it's not like fossil fuels don't receive massive subsidies globally and have done so for decades.
