NFL mandated players be on the sidelines for the national anthem in 2009. There was money after the mandate during the period 2012 to 2015. DID spent $6.8M on several pro teams across the spectrum (NFL, NBA, MLB, NASCAR, etc) in exchange, teams organized displays of national pride including flag presentations, the honoring of military members, reenlistment ceremonies, etc. Of course we know this has occurred previous to the $6.8M.

The NFL screwed our Military and therefore tax payers. The filthy dirty billionaires charged our Military to present our Flag and Colors as part of their get rich scheme. Don't waste your time watching 3 hours of commercials and crappy analysis and 20 minutes of football. Go hiking or skiing instead.
The NFL acknowledged they were wrong and returned the money to the Military.
Only after they got caught and the public was made aware of it. Same goes with the other leagues.

Ski season can't happen soon enough.

I'm not Roger, but I can't imagine the $700k the NFL asked the Military to pay them would bubble up to his level given their $13B in annual revenue. Everything doesn't have to be a conspiracy to destroy the little man.

whatever, no one is crowing over the return to sanity...its simply being acknowledged...

Q: how many fan dollars is the NFL willing to lose over this?

A: fewer than zero....

but for many the damage has already been done...

co-opting the national anthem is equivalent to shouting during a moment of silence...

Please note they are standing with arms interlocked and not with the right one over their heart. Come on NFL, get the politics off the field!

Should one not salute the flag? What's this hand over your heart sh*t? I didn't see everyone singing along out loud either. Highly offensive on multiple accounts...

well it's not like they all had their hands over their hearts previously...I don;t necessarily agree w the supposed premise of the whole protest but had it started out as a whole team locking arms that would have been viewed much more positively vs kneeling, sitting, stretching, turning your back etc...

I think that could have been seen as united under one flag...far more respectful and still draws attn to the cause w/o co-opting the anthem...

I also don't insist on absolute reverence to the flag and the anthem but I disapprove of any sort of disrespect, even more so if it's blatant and willful disrespect..

as I said previously, for many the damage has already been done...At first I was thinking "we'll see what happens this weekend particularly w my team" cuz I do like to watch football...now I kinda feel like no matter where it goes from here something has been lost...

Civilians do not salute the flag. Saluting is only done by active or retired military personnel.

Scouts salute the flag. Was taught to salute at age 5...
