whatever, no one is crowing over the return to sanity...its simply being acknowledged...

Q: how many fan dollars is the NFL willing to lose over this?

A: fewer than zero....

but for many the damage has already been done...

co-opting the national anthem is equivalent to shouting during a moment of silence...
Please note they are standing with arms interlocked and not with the right one over their heart. Come on NFL, get the politics off the field!
Should one not salute the flag? What's this hand over your heart sh*t? I didn't see everyone singing along out loud either. Highly offensive on multiple accounts...
When you pledge allegiance to the flag you do it with your hand over your heart. Saluting is for the military.

Basic rule is hand over your heart while standing and facing the flag. Uniformed military personnel should face the flag or music while saluting. This holds true for most uniformed civilians such as police and fire fighters.

thanks for clarifying... as a boy scout you always saluted when in uniform...what about the mailman? option of salute or hand over heart when in uniform? or is a salute considered the protocol?

So salute in uniform, no salute out of uniform? Holds true for civilians, military, and others? Per Army Regulation, active duty out of uniform or retired no salute for color presentations... Now I hear saluting when you're not supposed to is offensive to some? And not saluting when you should is also offensive... This is getting confusing. I may need to hide in a cave just not to offend anyone. Or does that offend people? My cousin has that weird birth defect where everything in his body is mirrored. Should he use his left hand over his heart or right hand? And over the heart, or over his left breast?

Sensitivity is out of control these days. Stop f*** crying. Please.

Quitting on the Steelers is understandable.
Quitting on the league is only understandable if you're not a Pats fan :P

All you dolts requiring saluting guidelines must be here illegally.
How can you not know that saluting is your right and privilege. :sad:

how can you be so stupid? oh yeah yer brownhole you just make sh*t up and run yer suck
raditionally, members of the nation's veterans service organizations have rendered the hand-salute during the national anthem and at events involving the national flag only while wearing their organization’s official head-gear.

The National Defense Authorization Act of 2008 contained an amendment to allow un-uniformed servicemembers, military retirees, and veterans to render a hand salute during the hoisting, lowering, or passing of the U.S. flag.

A later amendment further authorized hand-salutes during the national anthem by veterans and out-of-uniform military personnel. This was included in the Defense Authorization Act of 2009, which President Bush signed on Oct. 14, 2008.

Here is the actual text from the law:

SEC. 595. MILITARY SALUTE FOR THE FLAG DURING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM
BY MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES NOT IN
UNIFORM AND BY VETERANS.

Section 301(b)(1) of title 36, United States Code, is amended by
striking subparagraphs (A) through (C) and inserting the following new
subparagraphs:
``(A) individuals in uniform should give the
military salute at the first note of the anthem and
maintain that position until the last note;
``(B) members of the Armed Forces and veterans who
are present but not in uniform may render the military
salute in the manner provided for individuals in
uniform; and
``(C) all other persons present should face the flag
and stand at attention with their right hand over the
heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should
remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it
at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart;

Note: Part (C) applies to those not in the military and non-veterans. The phrase "men not in uniform" refers to civil service uniforms like police, fire fighters, and letter carriers - non-veteran civil servants who might normally render a salute while in uniform.

yes you can choose to be a disrespectful, classless piece of sh*t and do what ever you want...that's yer privilege, one you seem to exercise in most of what you say here...

before you talk you should read a book...

A new report from The Armstrong and Getty Radio Show has sent shockwaves throughout the sports world after it was claimed that members of the NFL’s Oakland Raiders may have purposefully allowed their star quarterback to get sacked multiple times after he refused to kneel during the National Anthem.
If true, this would essentially mean that an NFL football game was illegally thrown over anger that one of the teams star white players did not believe that kneeling during the nation’s anthem was the correct way to protest supposed racial injustice in America.
In other words, an epic level scandal.

the Washington Redskins sacked Derek Carr four times and held the Oakland Raiders to 128 yards in a dominating 27-10 victory on Sunday night.

So, I guess it would be ok to do a Nazi Salute to the US Flag during the National Anthem. How about a bunch of players burning a US Flag during the Anthem. How about taking a US Flag out to the 50 yard line and stomping on it. I guess all that would be ok too, since you can't have any rules about standing up during our National Anthem.

Could you imagine how the NFL, players and the media would react if there was some white supremacist-neo Nazi football player raising the Confederate Flag during our National Anthem? No problem, can't do anything about it, can't make rules against it; right?

With the NFL finding itself trapped in a vise of sliding viewership on one hand, and a sudden plunge in its favorability as a result of the ongoing "kneeling" feud with President Trump, which according to a just released POLITICO/Morning Consult poll has plunged from 30% on September 21 to just 17% on September 28, the most unfavorable in history...

As a result, the NBA which has seen a similar steep drop in viewership in recent years is taking emergency proactive measures, and according to the Associated Press, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said he expected players would stand for the anthem, followed up by a memo in which the NBA "recommended teams address fans or show videos expressing themes of unity before their first home games," while again reminding them of the rule that players must stand for the national anthem.
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/2086 ... nal-anthem" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The NBA sent a memo late Friday to teams reinforcing its rule that players and coaches stand for the national anthem, suggesting other ways in which they might address the recent protest movement sweeping across the NFL and other sports.

The memo, a copy of which was obtained by ESPN, was distributed by deputy commissioner Mark Tatum. It instructs teams that "the league office will determine how to deal with any possible instance in which a player, coach, or trainer does not stand for the anthem."
The NBA has rules, the civil service has rules, the boy scouts have rules, the military has rules...the NFL will soon have them as well...

as always brownies seething hatred for trump is first and foremost in his every word regardless of reality... he once seemed like a decent guy but trump derangement has made him a virtual brownshirt....
