According to today's NY Times editorial page a number of laws were recently passed in freedom loving Iraq that prohibit journalists from criticizing or insulting their government. The laws apparently match word-for-word laws that were on the books during the time of the Hussein regime. And it appears that the Iraqi police, instead of dealing with insurgents are busy enforcing this law since at least 3 journalists are currently sitting in Iraqi jails for reporting on local corruption.
Given that a free society cannot exist without a free press, I'm left to wonder exactly for whom and for what Democratic principal our people still dying.
