That's a first as far as I know.

Talking about the game yesterday vs NH and the great season they are having this year.

Beningo says he's gonna try and get the coach on this week.

Now that's some coverage.

Edit: Coach will be on TODAY with Jody Mac. Not sure what time. If you care, you can stream it at http://www.wfan.com....if" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; you care.

They are really playing up the 18-0 season. Nice attention they are getting.
Actually, they're 22 - 4 with an 18 game streak going now.
Yes, undefeated in the last 18 games. That's the talk on NY sports radio. My bad.
Don't really know much about the coach but will listen to him later today with JMac. Should be an interesting interview.

Interview just finished. Very insightful. Talked a bunch about the game vs Albany on Weds.

Jody Mac asked Pikiell "After that tough loss to Northeastern at Northeastern, you were sitting at 4 and 4. Did you think you were gonna rip off 18 in a row?"

Pikiell answered "18-0? I was just hoping to go 1-0."

Seemed like a very down to earth guy. Good luck to him.

3 games left. At Albany, at Maine, and home vs Vermont to close out their regular season....I think.

That's all that's left. After that, assuming they win the regular season title, they'll have home court through the America East tournament. Hoping they finally win the whole thing and get to dance for the first time in their D-1 history. I think they clench regular season with a victory over Albany on Wednesday.

Albany bested Maine by 44 points the other nite.
With their home win streak, they won't go quietly.

D-1 baby. All good. Don't sell them short. The program has come as long way and is paying dividends now.

A tidbit on the nomenclature, which I did not know until now:

During the early 1950's, when the Stony Brook campus was located in Oyster Bay, the University's teams were known as the Soundmen or Baymen. From 1960 through 1966, we competed as the Warriors. We became the Stony Brook Patriots/Lady Patriots in 1966, and held that name for nearly 30 years. In 1994, in an effort to create an exciting new team identity in line with our move to the Division I level, then-Stony Brook President Dr. John H. Marburger III proclaimed a new team nickname: the Seawolves. The Seawolf is a mythical sea creature of the Tlingit tribe, said to bring good luck to all those fortunate enough to see it.
Interesting, except that Stony Brook wasn't founded until 1957. When I was there in the late 60s to early 70s, we were the Patriots and had Rollie Massimino as coach for a while. He moved on to Penn as assistant coach before heading Villanova for a number of years.
They don't make em like Rollie anymore! I did not know he coached there.

Unfortunately, I couldn't watch the game but, from the score, they just got outplayed. http://www.stonybrookathletics.com/spor ... 16aaa.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Current standings still have them in good shape though so, unless they collapse for their two final games, it looks like the tournament will have them at home throughout.

TEAM Conference Overall

Stony Brook 13 - 1 22 - 5
Albany 11 - 3 22 - 7
New Hampshire 9 - 4 16 - 10
Vermont 8 - 5 16 - 12
UMass Lowell 7 - 7 11 - 16
Maine 4 - 9 8 - 18
Hartford 3 - 10 8 - 20
Binghamton 3 - 10 6 - 20
UMBC 2 - 11 6 - 22

If all four top seeds in the conference win first round games this Tuesday, Stony Brook will take on University of New Hampshire.
I think I'll go to the UNH game Tuesday night. Stony Brook swept UNH this year, won by one point the second game. UNH is having their best two year stretch ever. Will be fun to watch the outcome.

Seventh seed Hartford upset second seed Albany, sparing UNH (beat Binghamton) from having to play top seed Stony Brook this weekend. If UNH and Stony Brook win this weekend they will play for the conference championship. Does the conference championship winner get an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament?

UNH didn't look all that great Wednesday night getting past Binghamton. Their best player had a bad game missing most of his shots. Their tallest player from Senegal had about 5 moves inside-real nice and quick beating his defender to the hoop only to miss an easy lay in. As a team, UNH shot 27% from the field, this won't get it done.

Tournament winner gets automatic bid. Second place has generally gone to NIT.
