Refugees coming to Rutland
Re: Refugees coming to Rutland
These Refugees will rely on Federal hand outs. What if the money is cutoff Can Rutland afford to house and feed them
Did the mayor run on a platform to bring in Syrians to make Rutland great again I doubt it.

Re: Refugees coming to Rutland
Bunch of snow flakes. How many Syrian refugees have committed terrorist acts in the US? Zero.
Would a terrorist choose the refugee resettlement program to get into the US? Yeah sure! A one to 1.5 year wait with extensive background checks. That would be a great plan.
"If a potential terrorist is determined to enter America to do harm, there are easier and faster ways to get there than by going through the complex refugee resettlement process. Of the almost 750,000 refugees who have been admitted to America since 9/11, only two Iraqis have arrested on terrorist charges; they had not planned an attack in America, but aided al-Qaeda at home. Syrians in America have fared better than other groups of refugees, integrating quickly and finding work. Some have done very well indeed: the father of Steve Jobs, the ground-breaking innovator and founder of Apple, was a refugee from Syria. And the mother of Jerry Seinfeld, the comedian, is of Jewish Syrian descent."

My mother was a refugee resettled from a war zone in Europe. Since she was from Eastern Europe, she and her parents were subjected to the same suspicion, fear, and hatred that commenters are spewing on this thread. That despite the fact that that they took jobs in the garment industry within weeks of arriving, quickly learned English, and within a year my grandfather's English was good enough that he could return to his profession as a chemist in the pharmaceutical industry. As her son I was bullied because of her accent and ancestry. Same ignorant bigots then as today.
I'll gladly shake the hand and welcome a Syrian refugee to our great country.

Re: Refugees coming to Rutland
Are you equating an attack on a single woman walking alone in a region of war and instability to people who would come here under the refugee resettlement program?
I really find it hard to accept that people in a nation of immigrants can harbor such fear and hatred of other potential immigrants; people who risked their lives to escape disaster in their home countries.

I really find it hard to accept that people in a nation of immigrants not necessarily refugees, who's main goal was to assimilate and become an american...I'm not seeing any desire to assimilate at all...in fact all over europe it seems they have remained highly segregated and counter to local customs/culture... can harbor such fear and hatred I have neither fear nor hatred I simply have no use for them... I'm also not taking borders into my home for the same reasons...of other potential immigrants; people who risked their lives to escape disaster in their home countries.

not seeing any benefit having them here...their culture and way of life is what caused the "disasters" they now try to escape, not unlike the numerous socialist govts around the world whose "way of life" also causes it's populace to seek refuge only to attempt to instill their "way of life" upon their chosen refuge...their adherence to their " way of life" trumps any kind of logic, fact or indicators of failure caused by that "way of life" and by virtue of that alone they will eventually overwhelm their host refuge...

I too am supportive of continued immigration and refugee assistance, but I'm wondering how many refugees from Japan and Germany we invited here during WWII?Bubba wrote: I really find it hard to accept that people in a nation of immigrants can harbor such fear and hatred of other potential immigrants; people who risked their lives to escape disaster in their home countries.
Re: Refugees coming to Rutland
FBI has investigations in all 50 states. Thank god Cankle is not getting ready to be sworn in. We'd be screwed with her Streamtracker like "let's just bring them all in" mentality. You can't equate refugees from the past with these muslims. They are not compatible with democracy. MH is right they will create the same problems here they are trying to escape from. They also have the wrong god.

Obviously you are either joking or don't know how badly the US treated Jews trying to flee Germany.Mister Moose wrote:I too am supportive of continued immigration and refugee assistance, but I'm wondering how many refugees from Japan and Germany we invited here during WWII?Bubba wrote: I really find it hard to accept that people in a nation of immigrants can harbor such fear and hatred of other potential immigrants; people who risked their lives to escape disaster in their home countries.

Re: Refugees coming to Rutland
You don't understand what Mr. Moose is saying. His point is it would be stupid to bring in refugees from a country we're at war with. Didn't the US play a major role in setting up Israel? What has Israel had to say about the genocide against Christians in the Middle East. Nothing...
