Re: Vail buys Stowe
In other words, you really don't care about improvements on the mountain, expanded snowmaking, opening first and closing last, the businesses that rely on the "tourons" and the people they employ, because without those dollars, you will have the mountain all to yourself during the shortest season in Vermont.
Thanks for putting your words in my mounts. My turn. You obviously think Trump should step in and have the government fund Killington snow making expansion and mountain improvements in the face of stiff competition. Trumps next executive order must be to keep Killington's season long.
Touron.
Exactly the opposite. I'm a capitalist and a realist. Tourism is what drives any expansion and improvements at any resort. Without the "tourons" you have no mountain to ski on. You're a snob because you think you're above the tourists. Thankfully most of the people who run the businesses related to the Killington tourism industry are smarter than those of you that look down their noses at the tourons.
Ok let's differentiate between tourist and tourons. Those I am referring to sleep on my couch, eat my food and buy lift tickets in the parking lot. No loss with them going to Stowe.
That's funny. Glad we got that straightened out. And yes, tourons it is...maybe something worse. I'll think of something.

Re: Vail buys Stowe
Re: Pass Prices, it won't take long to find out. The Stowe website is saying "2017/2018 Pass Access to be announced in March". "Pass Access" is interesting (rather than Pass Pricing).
Personally I would be surprised to see them holding the Epic pass pricing at Stowe. The snowmaking costs alone changes the operating costs of a New England resorts significantly as compared to the western resorts they own I would think.
Will be interesting to see.

One thing Vail gets that Pwdr doesn't is if you included your western resorts on my pass, I would most likely buy food, beverage and stay local to the resort. You might not make the money on the lift ticket but you will make it up in other profits.

Good summary -
I have been an EPIC passholder for years, one trip out west pays for itself and after that you are "ahead".
So - what does that mean for me, a killington property owner who skis in the West as much or more than I do at Killington - I can go to Stowe using my Epic Pass. I am sure there a lot more people like me who will take advantage of that opportunity which means more $$ spent for Vail from me

Will Stowe’s season passes be changing for the 2017/18 season?
Stowe’s 2017/18 season pass access will be announced after the close of the acquisition later this Spring.

I'm guessing the 'East Local Epic pass with Limitted Western Access' will be the same as Stowe season passes this year.SnoBrdr wrote:From their FAQ:rogman wrote:Epic pass prices for next year are posted. No mention of Stowe.

No way a Stowe season pass and an Epic pass will be $ 859.

The CEO of Vail already said that Stowe would be part of the Epic pass like every other resort under them...hillbangin wrote:I'm guessing the 'East Local Epic pass with Limitted Western Access' will be the same as Stowe season passes this year.SnoBrdr wrote:From their FAQ:rogman wrote:Epic pass prices for next year are posted. Wouldn't surprise me at all. They'll walk into the Northeast, drop the hammer, and look around at every other Northeastern Resort operator and state:RENO wrote:The CEO of Vail already said that Stowe would be part of the Epic pass like every other resort under them...

Re: Vail buys Stowe
It's not fake news that Stowe will be incorporated into the Epic Pass - here are sources Vail's Snow.com Website, Forbes and Denver Post:
Snow.com (owned by Vail Resorts) press release announcing the acquisition of Stoww:
"Vail Resorts looks forward to integrating Stowe Mountain Resort into its Epic Pass and other season pass products for the 2017-18 winter season, subject to the acquisition closing. With the Epic Pass, Vermont skiers and snowboarders will have unlimited access locally at Stowe at an attractive price as well as the best of the West at Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone in Colorado; Park City in Utah; Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood in Tahoe; and Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia, Canada. "

Denver Post - http://www.denverpost.com/2017/02/21/va ... -purchase/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
"And 485-acre Stowe fits Vail Resorts’ high-end profile. Stowe’s reputation as a premiere ski destination is regularly affirmed with the priciest lift tickets in New England, reaching $124 for the 2016-2017 season. Vail Resorts’ flagship Vail ski area regularly boasts the most expensive lift tickets in the country, reaching $189 a day this season.
That high pricing pushes more skiers toward its industry-shaking Epic Pass. The company sold 650,000 of the passes this season. The addition of Stowe gives Eastern skiers a reason to join the expanding Epic Pass club and travel west to visit more Vail Resorts hills. Stowe will be part of the Epic Pass program for the 2017-18 ski season, which will reduce season pass prices at Stowe — which reached $2,000 for 2016-17 — by about half.
.......
It might be a win-win for Stowe skiers who will see new investment as well as cheaper season passes. But for other Vermont resorts, a battle is pending. Vail’s $809 Epic Pass will be one of the most affordable in Vermont and, if Colorado’s two decade season pass war is any indication, most resorts will have to follow suit and slash pass prices. And those resorts are hardly friendly rivals of Vail’s. Vermont’s powerhouse ski area Killington is owned by Powdr Corp., the resort operator that was forced to sell its flagship Park City resort to Vail after a tumultuous legal fight. Stratton is owned by Intrawest, which once eclipsed Vail Resorts as the largest resort operator in North America but withered under the recession as Vail Resorts blossomed. And Stowe, like Whistler Backcomb, is a not-for-long member of the Mountain Collective, a family of independent ski areas like Aspen, Telluride, Mammoth and Jackson Hole allied against the Epic Pass with a $409 pass good for two days at 14 resorts."
Forbes- while not explicitly stated, the article assumes Stowe will be included as per statements from Rob Katz:
