weekend report

Post by skiadikt »

saturday surprisingly started out w/ some peaks of sunshine. marked time waiting for the bumps to soften by alternating laps on skye lark, bittersweet & supe which had all been groomed. by around 10 the bumps on supe softened nicely. sweetest line was lower supe extreme skiers left which corned up nicely as opposed to the more granular snow on the rest of the trail. our quest for dirty snow began w/ a trip over to ovation. a nice ribbon of corn w/ a short break or two. didn't do lower which is pretty much gone. after a short lunch w/ dark clouds rolling in and a light drizzle we decided it was time to get a nature walk in. hiked over to double dipper which appeared to have the best coverage though downdraft looked pretty good also. we were rewarded with a bumper crop of the sweetest creamy corn. definitely the run of the day. by now (~1:30) there was a fairly steady r*in and we decided to call it a day scuttling plans for other excursions to bear & needles.

sunday morning no r*in but the mountain was socked in by the killington cloud. spent the morning on the 3 open runs and after a couple blindfolded runs through the bumps on supe went in for lunch. with the killington cloud showing no iminent signs of departing we decided to get out of dodge. hit some sunshine on the ride home so hopefully there was some clearing on the hill.

at this point lower skye lark looks like it's about to break. doubt it'll last the week. there's already some rockage on the supe headwall with skiers right already bare. there could be walking on the headwall by next weekend though they do have some snow they could push down. never seen the headwall go so early before. the rest of the trail appears to be pretty well covered. back up in 2 for the last hurrah.

We did the hike over to the Canyons this afternoon in the sunshine. We too decided to do DD since you could do it with no major breaks. We missed you on our trip over to OL - our springtime friend M and a buddy of his joined us. That snow was very sweet too. You guys should have stuck around and you would have been rewarded.

Just hiking up to the top of OL and then hiking down to the snow. SND took a short cut - the connecting trail from upper Wildfire that goes past the entrance to Growler but he missed out on doing the ribbon at the top which was sweet too. Also there was some grass skiing required on Great Eastern at some point.

if you demo skis, there is no hiking.
