anyone who competes in any event even ski bum/ bike bum must wear a helmet...seems odd when the race instructor isn't wearing one but I don't really care what other people do...

Sugarloaf had someone die a few years ago after they lost footing while setting gates.
See this Sugarloaf today thread for the details.

The result was that it lead to a fine for Sugarloaf and now a requirement for all employees to wear helmets. See below thread for details.

I actually have to agree with you here. Why would nobody where a helmet these days? Just dumb not to. I just think back to my racing day wipe outs when I wasn't wearing one. Got lucky.ski wrote:. . . How come most of their coaches do not wear helmets?
Bad example.

Re: Speaking of KMS/KSC at Ramshead. . . .
USSA mandates FIS certified helmet use in races and practices sessions for obvious reasons. I'm more than a bit surprised that KMS/KSC doesn't for their employees while working. In this incredibly litigious society, it is exposing both organizations to unnecessary financial risk. Even if you win you lose. It would appear that their general counsel, the respective heads of the organizations, and their boards of directors are all ignoring their fiduciary responsibilities. Little upside benefit, huge downside risk. Whatever. Not my circus, not my monkeys.

Better than any of us?
On the US Ski Team?
Won a medal in the World Cup?
Won a medal in the Olympics?
"As Seen on TV" might be another.
How about name recognized by folks from a different region or country?
Not to dis any NCAA Competitors, but skiing at a level above intermountain Ski Clubs.

I'd argue that NCAA D1 athlete > intermountain ski club athlete... but putting that aside, their website lists a handful of Olympians and national champions.Stache wrote:On US Ski Team would be sufficient.Mister Moose wrote:Define world class -Stache wrote:Good question, has KMS/KSC ever produced a World Class Skier??

At the up coming Lake Placid World Cup moguls several KMS athletes will be there.
Re: Speaking of KMS/KSC at Ramshead. . . .
Are we talking about the coaches that are observing? Like side of the course, filming at the bottom, etc? If so, who cares if they're wearing helmets? I'm pretty sure they have to wear helmets when skiing with the athletes.

Wow - I'm nearly certain that is against policy. If anyone really wants to, I'm sure filming it and bringing it to someone's attention would change it. That's not my scene though.

No argument at all that an NCAA D1 athlete is better than an intermountain ski club athlete.boston_e wrote:I'd argue that NCAA D1 athlete > intermountain ski club athlete... but putting that aside, their website lists a handful of Olympians and national champions.Stache wrote:On US Ski Team would be sufficient.Mister Moose wrote:Define world class -Stache wrote:Good question, has KMS/KSC ever produced a World Class Skier??

In the US for alpine D1 programs, there are currently 12 mens and 13 women's programs in the entire country. That's roughly 280 womens and 260 mens D1 alpine skiing scholarships across all 4 academic years in the country. When you factor in that on many D1 programs, a decent percentage of their scholarship athletes come from non US ski academies and/or intermountain club programs, the overall level of a D1 alpine program is better than an intermountain club program.
Not all athletes at a ski academy or intermountain club program will ski for a D1 school

OK, thanks, new respect for KMS as a competitor development platform. Now, if they could help the students develop manners and courtesy to others they would earn a whole lot more respect.boston_e wrote:I'd argue that NCAA D1 athlete > intermountain ski club athlete... but putting that aside, their website lists a handful of Olympians and national champions.Stache wrote:On US Ski Team would be sufficient.Mister Moose wrote:Define world class -Stache wrote:Good question, has KMS/KSC ever produced a World Class Skier??
