If it's OK for Turkey to have a 20 mile buffer zone in Syria, why isn't it OK for us to have one in Mexico? That would cut into the Cartel's profit margin...

I recommend we designate the Cartels as terrorists and start treating them as such. Operations IN MEXICO with Special Forces, Rangers and Marines, backed up by APC's/Tanks, attack helicopters, A-10's and (no I'm totally not kidding) B-1B bombers. I'd be willing to bet there have been a handful of secret US drone strikes in Mexico over the last few years.
Lets see how cocky the Cartels are after having a few thousand 500lb bombs dropped on them.

The cartels no doubt want a porous border so they can import weapons and export drugs. Trump's actions to improve border security is forcing the cartels to respond with violence. Then Trump puts the Mexican government in a corner by offering U.S. military assistance to fight the cartels which Trump knew the Mexican government would reject outight. But Trump is doing what he always does which is shining a big honking spot light on the problem.
I'd much rather see our military at our own border to fight a very real and immediate problem on the other side of the border than to be worrying about the Syrian/Turkish border.
