Political bias may not have played a role in starting the investigation but it strains credibility that it went as far as it did with all these "mistakes and omissions" without political bias. Nobody is dumb enough to leave a trail of overt political bias, especially federal investigators, but they are certainly smart enough to make lots of "mistakes and omissions" that allow the investigation to continue as far as a freakin FISA application.
Many questions still yet to be answered. How did all these mistakes and omissions get made? What are the FISA judges saying about this? On what basis did a FISA warrant get issued?
Attorney general Bill Barr has come out swinging against the report and the entire investigation, saying that the FBI relied on “flimsy” evidence to start the investigation.
“It’s hard to look at this stuff and not think that it was a gross abuse,” the attorney general said on Tuesday at a Wall Street Journal CEO Council forum held in Washington.
“Where I disagree with Mike, I just think this was very flimsy,” Barr said of them using comments by Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos as a reason to start investigating the campaign of President Donald Trump.
He also was furious at the FBI not including evidence that would have weighed against them as they sought permission to investigate Carter Page.
“They withheld from the court all the exculpatory information,” Barr said, calling the entire Russia investigation a “sham.”
But if the Democrats and the Deep State actors involved in the “sham” think that the game is over, Barr has news for them.
“That’s why we have Durham,” he said. “Durham is able to look at all the evidence.”
Durham will not be held to the same limits that Inspector general Michael Horowitz had in place that prevented him from talking to certain government agencies and private parties.

As Mr. Horowitz wrote in his report, he lays the blame at the top (cough Comey cough):
“We are deeply concerned that so many basic and fundamental errors were made by three separate, hand-picked investigative teams; on one of the most sensitive FBI investigations; after the matter had been briefed to the highest levels within the FBI; even though the information sought through use of FISA authority related so closely to an ongoing presidential campaign; and even though those involved with the investigation knew that their actions were likely to be subjected to close scrutiny. We believe this circumstance reflects a failure not just by those who prepared the FISA applications, but also by the managers and supervisors in the [investigation’s] chain of command, including FBI senior officials who were briefed as the investigation progressed.

IG Horowitz told Congressional investigators on Wednesday that FBI officials should have seriously reconsidered their surveillance efforts on former Trump campaign aide Carter Page in early 2017, when information they gathered cast significant doubt on their legal justification to surveil him, according to Bloomberg.
Horowitz also said that the FBI misled the FISA court in order to keep spying on Page.
"I don’t think the Department of Justice fairly treated these FISAs, and he was on the receiving end of them," he said.

Former FBI director James Comey on Sunday said he was wrong about the FBI’s handling of a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrant to investigate former Trump campaign official Carter Page.
“He’s right, I was wrong,” Comey said, referring to Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s finding that the FBI made at least 17 “errors or omissions” in obtaining the warrant.
“Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace asked Comey about his claims that he had “total confidence” in the FBI’s handling of FISA warrants.
“I was overconfident in the procedures that the FBI and Justice have built over 20 years,” Comey said. “I thought they were robust enough. It’s incredibly hard to get a FISA. I was overconfident in those because he’s right, there was real sloppiness. Seventeen things that either should have been in the application or at least discussed and characterized differently. It was not acceptable. So he’s right, I was wrong.”
Later in the interview, Comey said it was “fair” to say that the FBI gave false information to the FISA court.
Horowitz’s report, which was published Monday, found no evidence of political bias in the FBI’s decision to investigate the Trump campaign. However, it found “17 significant errors or omissions” in the FISA application to monitor Page, a foreign policy adviser to the Trump campaign. During his congressional testimony, Horowitz contradicted numerous talking points used by Rep. Adam Schiff, a California Democrat, Comey and others about the FBI’s conduct throughout the Russia investigation.
