Agreed. The Mets have a dilemma. Keep a publicly announced cheater as manager or fire him and find a new manager a month before spring training.

IMHO, it's no dilemma. They should let him go.
I wonder if the reason that they didn't go after him or any other player is the MLBPA.

While he is no longer a player, he was a player when his actions took place.

MLB obviously doesn't want to piss off the players.

This is really not all that different from MLB sticking their heads in the sand during the steroid era.

If they punished one player they would have to punish them all, many are now on different teams so suspending them wouldn't be hurting the astros, it would be hurting the teams they play for now. MLB did not want to touch that with a 10 foot pole, and had no interest in bring the union into it.

Then MLB shouldn't say they are protecting the integrity of baseball if they let some of the major perpetrators get away.
