Tahoe Info

Post by c1mccaff »

I need info for South Lake Tahoe and I know that some Zoners went out there this year. Anyway, we are having about 23 of us out there in March and was curious about the lodging and shuttle service at Heavenly. We have some skiers and non-skiers, we want to be able to be together (house or condos) with easy access to the slopes and casinos. Any info regarding locations and suggestions for renting houses or condos and transportation (most will not have cars) will be appreciated.

I called some rental places and was hoping I could get an honest opinion on the area from some Zoners. Thanks.

Easiest access to both slopes & casinos is to stay in Stateline - that is where the gondola starts from. Marriott has 2 big time share places right at the Gondola. There are also suite hotels and other condos in the area. Traffic in Stateline is pretty awful at the end of the day. There are many condos to choose from on the Kingsbury Grade (Nevada side of the mountain). There are shuttle buses to the Casinos from the Nevada side condos (about a 10 minute shuttle ride down to Stateline). Access to Boulder and Stagecoach lifts (Nevada base lodges) from the condos is also very easy via the shuttles that run up and down Kingsbury Grade. You can PM me with any specific questions.

Just don't expect anything scenic. South Lake Tahoe and State Line pretty much win the prize for seedy butt-ugly ski towns. With the lake right there, it's criminal what the place looks like. I'd bulldoze the whole thing and start over.

Agreed, Stateline seems the place to stay. We stayed on the Nevada side of Stateline and had a great condo at a great price (hoping to get the same condo for next year). Very nice area and if you wanted to, walking distance to one of Heavenly's lifts (I believe the Stagecoach Express) and only about a 2 minute car ride. Also, reasonable driving distance to other ski resorts.

A group of us stayed at Kinsbury Grade area on the Nevada Stateline side. You can see our condo and views from here:

The places are listed in skibumptress' post. I've also stayed at the Stateline near the casinos. Not as nice but it's near all the action, so it's a give and take for the nightlife and convenience. Take a trip out to Kirkwood, it's a little over an hour south and well worth the trip.
