The Justice Department is investigating a potential crime related to funneling money to the White House or related political committee in exchange for a presidential pardon, according to court records unsealed Tuesday in federal court.

Given the more than 140 (!!) pardons and commutations handed out by Trump in has last day or two in office, I wonder if there's something to this? Just saw an article about a pardon for a wealthy real estate developer accused in the college admissions scandal. If the dude was willing to pay $250k for his daughter to get into college, how much do you think he would be willing to pay for a pardon?

Just read that if he knows what specific crimes that "a person" will be charged with, then he could have made multiple secret pardons and pull them out when he needs it, long after he leaves office.

Couldn't Biden rescind secret pardons? Not that I think he should, but seems there would be a burden on the recipient to evidence the secret pardon was delivered properly.

Secret pardons apparently might not work? Apparently it's never happened before. The whole concept of a secret pardon seems super shady.

As with most things of this nature, it will be up to the courts to decide. Since there's no case law that addresses it, any outcome would be difficult to predict. I have a feeling, though, that most judges would be pretty suspicious of secret pardons.
