Postal robberies

Post by Dickc »

Its not really political, but I'm putting it here as it will become political. I've seen on TV, stories about the mailmen getting held up for their keys. When it happens NEXT DOOR to your house, it becomes real, really fast!

Robber wanted his keys so they can steal mail out of the blue boxes, take the checks, and then erase and rewrite them to steal money.

Here is a report with a different view in it of the robery, also they stitch and enhance my ring videos for a clearer story.

Holy crap, I missed that it was your ring video. Pretty disturbing that this stuff happened in broad daylight right in front of your house!

Check washing seems like such an easy thing to bust people for, no? I assume after they wash these checks they either go to a check cashing spot or a bank, but would have to provide ID to show they are who they say they are? I guess the banks aren't going to spend many resources trying to stop these guys so they know there's nothing much anyone can do?

I didn't know folks are still sending checks in the mail!

Check fraud is still a big thing. Some people are dumb enough to forge the check and deposit it in their own account. Those ones usually get caught. But it's also possible to get a fake ID and go to a check-cashing place. More sophisticated criminals can use stolen identities to create online accounts and deposit checks that way. Banks do try to fight it, but a certain amount of these fraudulent transactions are treated as breakage.

We need a better electronic payment framework. What we have now is hodge-podge and cumbersome. For example I pay all my bills via online banking, but I know my bank sends checks for several of those online payments because the payees don't have any sort of system for electronic payment receipt.

Yup, look at my user name and you will see its not very inventive.

Just happy to help them any way I can, and thought talking with the press might make someone out there drop a dime and nail the jerk. Every major Boston outlet spoke with me and reported it. It got broad coverage. Just thought NBC Boston did the best job.

The above is from February. Its the arrest of the idiot who stuck up my postman.

My postman informed me today that the perpetrator plead guilty late last week and the prosecution wants 5 years jail time, and the defense wants it reduced to 2 years. Sentencing is set for August 9th. No formal announcement has been made by the Boston feds, just the word of my postman.

Seems the guy is getting off easy. I think it should be more jail time.
