Wednesday January 17
Not as cold as expected, 5 inches of fluff to play in. I got in the K1 line just as it started loading, maybe 70 people there. Lots of drifting. FIS was scoured clean with dense packed drifts skiers left. SR good not great. The crunchy slick base is still there in less windblown spots. Bear Fire had snow, then you got spit out into scrape city

5 inches?!?!? I thought Killington reported 15 inches??? They must have used their own penis measuring ruler.Mister Moose wrote: ↑Jan 17th, '24, 12:56 Not as cold as expected, 5 inches of fluff to play in. 5ish inches this am, the mountain is reporting on 24 hours, which includes all yesterday daytime snow post open. But you're right in that it sure didn't ski like 15 total.KingsFourMan wrote: ↑Jan 17th, '24, 13:22 5 inches?!?!? I thought Killington reported 15 inches??? We thought the Dreamaker Park area without the park had the best snow today early before it got discovered.Mister Moose wrote: ↑Jan 17th, '24, 12:56 Not as cold as expected, 5 inches of fluff to play in. Re: Wednesday January 17
Afternoon Report: If not 15", it was close. Definitely about 8" new closing bell the day before and I can believe they got 5" or so more in the evening. With that said, not sure what some folks don't understand. There is glare ice everywhere from the most recent r*in events that happened after the mountain got re-covered with snow. Blower pow doesn't stick to it. Even the K report the past coupla days stated that "the base is firm, and the new snow is light and fluffy so even though it's deep, it is crispy underneath in places". If you want it to ski like pow, gotta stay on low angle stuff. There are other factors to consider e.g., the "pow" can be better on something they had just groomed before the new snow fell on it [like the Snowdon park the other day].
Warmup North Star very good with expected slide and slam prevalance [fun trying to stay on top of the old bumps to avoid the glare]. Common theme today so I won't repeat it too much. Upper Royal Flush great and Lower RF very good with similar conditions as North Star.
Newly opened Lower Double Dipper more of the same. Pretty good for the most part. Though I didn't ski it, Downdraft was probably better as it had decent man-made snow under the new snow.
ROTD: Jug -> Breakaway. Able to avoid most of the ice on Breakaway hard right side. Bear Cub exit fine except for a wet gun or two at the S turns.
Gateway icy but Dream Maker park very good. Grizzly decent and improved over the other day. Heard they opened DM headwall. Shorty very good. Lower Wildfire OK. Saw OL open on the App so headed over to it to find it closed up top and only open from Spacewalk. So had to do Upper Wildfire that was really good at first, then OK. Lower OL was good with lots of fresh snow right. Skye Peak liftline also open and looking pretty good.
Thimble -> Stitchline excellent though Stitch was better a couple of days ago.
Mid Supe / Skyelark pretty good. Upper Bunny excelllent and Conclusion still good as well.
Ran out of time as I wanted to try the Rams Head woods that are now open. Anyone else get there?
A bit disappointing after seeing the 15" report, but about what I expected.
