tuesday 2/27 report

Post by skiadikt »

rinse and repeat only better. more sunshine w temps pushing into the 50's. skiing for the most part was spring right from the opening bell. maybe a few more peeps than yesterday. 9-2 shift.

absolutely beautiful corn on highline. based on the trail report, once again made a bee-line for a groomed lower ovation. as is the case too often w the report, it was wrong. ultimately skied it a couple times. it was soft enough and good but gotta get this right. supe was better than yesterday and the old supe bumps (one of the few bump runs left on the mtn after last week's grooming frenzy) had softened nicely. speaking of OL - big, soft, beautiful bumps just baking in the sun. earned a couple trips. rotd.

all the upper needles ridge runs skied well though more junk to avoid on dream hw and thimble. going fast. vertigo good.

more trail report issues. report said lower dipper was groomed. instead downdraft was the one groomed. again didn't matter as everything skied great in the canyon. cascade was groomed. great bear good. unfortunately we'll be riding a roller coaster the next couple days.

Loon Groomer [mostly] Cornfest Report: Fantastic road trip for something Completely Different. 11:45 - 4:00 shift.

Except for the woods, everything open except for one trail up in the East Basin [Triple Trouble].

South Side: All good and transitioning from "cord" to corn as we started. Lapped that great lift/area several time before heading East.

Two runs down to the Kanc 8 good.

East Basin / North Peak: I call it the big three. All good and lapped several times. As is the norm, U/L Walking Boss and Lower Flume with 1/3 ungroomed on the right with nice playful medium size bumps.

Back across to the South and lapped several more times. If you've never been there, this area gets sun most of the day it seems.

Lots of uninterrupted very long trails with low traffic ! All high speed lifts except for the schlep [back and forth] on the Tote Road chair.

Nice change of pace.

Start and snowshed with the Mrs. Did some groomers early while they were still somewhat firm. Ended up at bear. Mrs wanted a break. I left my jacket with her and went up skyepeak express to do OL. Snow was great on OL but no jacket on 2/26 in VT is WTF.

Worked back to sbowshed and Mrs called it because snow was too heavy for her. I hit Sup, Ovation then over to the Canyon runs. DD headway was decent. The Jerry show on it was silly. 2 dudes side slipping it...

Highline twice to end the day at 1. Snow was super grabby

3 great days. I'll be back in a few weeks hopefully it snows before then...

DD was great today. While skiing it, saw someone was straight lining down East Fall. He could not negotiate the left turn towards canyon chair.
He "Flew" into the woods. landing in the river after hitting trees. We stayed with him until Ski patrol arrived. Which was in minutes. Not sure how he got there that quick. The man was conscious when we left.

How often do these incidents happen? Just curious.
