Thursday, Feb 29th - Leap Day

Post by MrsG »

It is really pretty out there …. but, it is also pretty nasty! Will be interested to hear how the upper mountain fared! Started at Snowshed for a couple and it was worse than dust on crust with some patches of snow, but also clear ice patches! We decided best to save ourselves for the remainder of the season! Be careful out there!

Edit to add: did not see any snowmaking anywhere you can see from Snowshed Quad! It was also very windy!

Sounds like a good day to skip. Looking forward to softer conditions and re-opened runs next week.

I saw one brave soul on Lower Pike on my way out of the neighborhood. I didn't envy his foolishness.

The gondi and bubble were running at the start and we took the gondi up, as usual.

Off to East Fall - nice pow along skier's left near the trees. Cascade too was best along the left side. Corduroy in the middle was a bit firm, but fine.
Then a do over of East Fall. It was still good. No one was out so the pow stayed fresh.

Superstar and Needles chairs were not running so off to Bear we went. Down Pipedream - a beautiful wide field of untracked pow - too bad we had to exit onto Bear Trax.

At Bear we went down Viper Pit and lower Burst - very nice - not as granular as the basin side. Wildfire looked great so up we went on the SPQ. Wildfire was very good. Then up the SPQ and down to Needles.

Panic/Needles skied great, again along the trees. Too bad it was so hard to get to today, else we would have done it again.

Northbrook to Snowshed and out. When we approached Superstar the chair was spinning so up we went. It was breezy, but not too bad. Except at the very top, when the wind just about blew us out of the chair! A reminder to keep the bar down next time!

Down Superstar, we stayed to the right along the trees in the trough below the whales. We bailed out to Skylark which was good, not as much powder however. Up the chair again, down Bittersweet, nice, not granular, very enjoyable.

Then back up the gondi to do LEF again. It was still good. So few people out, we kept hitting fresh pow. After that - up the bubble, down Bunny, Trap, Bunny. Lower Bunny had guns going which were throwing out nice snow, a definite good run.

All in all, we thought today was one of our better days.

And we complain that they are not blowing snow in late Feb at Killington.
