Sat. 3/16 Report

Post by RustyK »

Out at 8:30 recovering from the western hangover.

Firm with coral reef off the groomers. Vis was an issue.

Cruise ok. Woods too sticky to turn down low.

Sup good as was as was Sky.10:00 meet up at the snowshed bar for the 26 annual lift and bar tour. Lots of laughs and fun with a pretty big group. Borgy, Boozetan and KnuckleDragger to name a few.

When down to rt 4 via a very thin great eastern. Not much life left there. Called it at 3. Great tour anyways.

Pickle happy with SBF and celebrity skin.

Happy St. Patties day!

Afternoon Report: Great ! Just enough softening, and could tell it hadn't been soft all day. Finding the 'lightly tracked' had it's rewards on nice corn.

ROTD: Off the backside of the Superstar Glacier and onto Skyewalker, on our way to Bear. Maybe not really ROTD, but sweet corn and not often to see Skyewalker up on the podium.

Early LEF very good, and nice to be able to see for a change ! Up the Canyon where Cascade and the others looked good, but figured would be even better later. So, down Supe -> Low Road which was very good. Interesting in that Lower Bittersweet was such a mess [probably OK for a good skier] that all the herbs were opting for Low Road. Next run Skyelark TTB was excellent.

Stash -> Dream Maker Park very good. Cruise Control good but hacked up quite a bit. Repeat on Skyelark just as good as before.

Doubled down on Cascade to close out the day. Though about Downdraft for a bit, but it was a bit firmer than Cascade that was just ripe.

sshh ... when coming from supe, usually drop down 'walker to get to bear instead of gateway (they'll be plenty of those off the SPQ). no big thrill but enjoy the solitude. if there's a dusting it just sits there. the 'roy lasts all day and it does corn up nicely. just let 'em run ...

thought of doing the afternoon bump shift (if there are any) but opted to let my body heal this weekend w a western trip coming up.

We found Skywalker when MrG healing from calf strain - made for a nice long run from top of Sup, K1 or Northridge to Rt 4!

Fog, lots of fog. Started at Ramshead parking in the Subaru VIP section in my Subaru  Did a header then through the park, visibility not great but doable. over to Snowdon, did chute fog getting denser. Went back up the bubble over to North Ridge and over to Bear for some visibility respite. Claw>Lower Wild Fire which had nice soft bumps. Did Burst T2B then over to needles. Did Needles proper then decide to try Vertigo. Not a great choice as the bumps were pretty firm. Cruise control then over to do superstar, not bad. Went up the chair and off the back to utilize the South Ridge Chair to get back to the front (Take notice management, this lift serves a purpose more than the trails which get no love). A firm Cascade then down to the box for an early Peak Lodge lunch. Had the Ramen, and it was fantastic. My son hadn't been in the Peak lodge since the last days of the old lodge. He was impressed and also the fog lifted just as we finished our Fiddlehead. DD headwal to lower east fall up Canyon and DD. Bumps weren't bad. Back up canyon and over to ridge run which also skied well. Over to High line. watched a few of the kids ski some bump runs, great seeing such a big turn out for the little ones. Up the bubble decided to try Squeeze play, no bueno. lost cover about 1/2 way down. so much open water... got to the bottom and said no to the Ramshead line and called it a day.

Pretty good day.

We had skied Hunter on Friday on the way up and they were in a world of hurting over there. Soft bumps everywhere and incredibly thin cover. Not sure if they put it back together for Saturday morning or not. If not the place would've been even more dangerous than usual...
