monday 4/15 report

Post by skiadikt »

hard to believe it's the ides of april already. a foggy start to the day with the fog pitching a tent up top particularly in the canyon and NR. cramped our style a bit. hero snow abounded from the git go. hard to find anything remotely firm. 9-12 shift.

at the bell both LEF & cascade were soft & creamy. if anything lack of viz made them a bit "challenging".

headed over to supe where the fog lifted a bit w the sun even peaking at times. all runs there skied very well. old supe nicely skied in soft bumps but the final drop-off is almost gone. mid o got a couple swipes. smaller not as defined bump lines since it recently had been groomed. lower o skied well, at least 90% of it but there are a couple major ski arounds necessary.

back on the front, fog still an issue up high. got some "vertigo" on GN. ridge run nice soft bumps. not sure how much longer it lasts. wanted to do both of the DDs but preferred better viz. should rock tomorrow. highline has a major gash running across w other bare sections. soft enough. upper chute/GB skied very well. a few easily avoidable rocks on lower GB.

Funny to watch the KMS van drop off a bunch of grungily dressed student skiers at the Vale lot entrance - guess they were incognito today - they headed directly to the park.

Viz was an issue but got some nice runs in!

Why did/would they groom middle ovation, is there a reason why they would flatten out the bumps there?

Maybe to push snow onto the cut back to Superstar? Lower O is fading fast.

remember hearing it was groomed last thurs or fri. not sure why they did it. the bumps are reforming.

maybe they pushed snow onto the runout from mid to supe. when they're making snow on supe, wish they'd point a gun or two on that runout. it always melts out way before the trail does. and yeah lower o fading fast.

amazing how off til-yesterday's mostly sunny 56
turned out to be. but foggy days have their charm/mystery, especially when the snow is so hero.
bumps were indeed nice at old sup, and at n.star too; did that twice while i could. a last run downdraft was nice too. fast runout made the canyon trails especially
worthwhile, though i regretably never made it to DD.

all in all an ugly day with a great personality ;0}

the great snow made the low vis acceptable, if not irrelevant.

had a blast.
