Only Superstar Quad After this Weekend!

Post by GSKI »

K1 and all other lifts will be closed. Too bad there is a lot of snow on the main mountain.

"The North Ridge Quad, Ramshead Express, Snowdon Six and K-1 Gondola are scheduled to run through April 21st, when they will carry their last skiers and riders of the 2023/24 winter season. Be sure to check out our lift and trails report for the full lineup of open and groomed terrain, and lift details. Enjoy it while you still can!"

very disappointed. definitely sucks especially w all the snow on the mtn. no consolation but they did go to supe only the same week last season.

and of course there's more than enough snow to reopen needles and (cough, cough) OL for this weekend.

Kinda surprised they could not just run the K1 for another week.

Down to sup with upper mountain this good just means lots of peeps walking.

I know it’s a staffing issue but……

In 2022, literally the height of the labor shortage, they had 3 lifts open on May 1st. The staffing excuse doesn't work anymore.

it would provide a good excuse for office staff to get outside and keep things going, but they likely mailed it in weeks ago.
i can't help but think there's a real lack of imagination when it comes to promoting spring skiing. this should be a time for the last hills standing to generate buzz and make money.

In 2022, when they kept Ramshead and Snowdon open, they actually filled up both the K1 and Ramshead parking lots, both days of the weekend. I cannot think of a more clear case for keeping things open.

Yet during the spring summer fall they run
2 lifts every day of the week
3 lifts 4 days a week.

Are there really that many bikes up there midweek in June and sept ?

Do they ever scale back that schedule due to lack of demand?

the Powder Bean Counters said stop the bleeding. It sucks, but that is the only reasonable answer.

I would gladly trade running Superstar only on this rainy day and redeem it for 3 lifts last weekend in April.

yes!
if they can shutter the hill 4 days a week in may regardless of weather, they could shutter most of the hill on shitty days in april in the name of preserving the snowpack.

many mtns beyond the expected - like MRG - shuttered for entire rainy days midwinter.

on monday, i was constantly surprised to look up and see people on the chairs.

i'd have given that up for tuesday in an instant with a day's notice.

If they can scrape together staff to run 3 lifts for mountain biking most of the off-season when there are 12 people there they can run K-1 and Bear for another weekend. It's a bean counting move.

pretty sure that's the reason. overall it's been a miserable season with way too many rainouts (like today) and many terrible holidays & weekends. and it does seem there's been a precipitous drop in attendance the couple weeks. but yeah it does suck.

the mtn bike lift question is a good one as they run 2 lifts mid-week and 3 on the weekends, w i'm guessing lighter attendance for the most part. you'd have to ask them but my sense it's part of powdr's beloved woodward brand and they're trying to grow that business.

for the record, they did go to supe only this week last year and in 2021. in 2022, they did make an effort to run snowdon & rams an additional week because of the early K1 shutdown.
