friday 4/19 report

Post by skiadikt »

after yesterday's blip on the radar, we returned to our regularly scheduled program. not the prettiest day. some hazy sun and very breezy on the open chairs particularly the NR. actually downright chilly on the lift for a while. place was ridiculously empty for a friday. 9-1+ shift.

skied very similarly to earlier in the week. for most part, everything soft at the bell. another hard to find a bad turn day.

the untracked creamy groom on snowdon at the bell was worth the price of admission. similar in the NR as well. followed up w cascade and LEF. both soft and skied very well but the snow on LEF is getting browner and there are more potholes.

loaded up over on the skye peak side hitting every combination including panic/needles and upper needles. upper needs still skiing great. old supe continues to be my fave bumps on the hill. now you really have to go into the woods to avoid the bare lower section. mid o good. pretty much signed off on lower.

dipper "rope" excellent. finished off back on snowdon. highline excellent and the upper chute/GB very good as well.

Sounds like the spring pass sales were weak. If no one is showing up I can't blame Mike for shrinking the footprint and cutting their losses.

Best skier on the mountain is in town. Parking lots busy today. Lift lines not. Stop complaining and go ski. All you’re missing is Bear. Skyship doesn’t count, shouldn’t even be there to begin with. Scale down. Profit more.

Deadest Friday in memory. Nice spring skiing in semi flat light. Lots of thin spots opening up. Many trails have deep snow pockets, but also thin spots. Upper Chute is on fumes at the entrance, but the rest of the trail is nicely sculpted bumps. Great Bear upper edge to edge, has wide openings at the bridge ridge. Highline fun, deeper carved in places, navigation necessary to avoid getting dead ended. West Glade still skiing pretty good, but now has some sheet base ice and grass spots. Keep your eyes open everywhere for unmarked open holes. Looked over at Caper as it heads to Northstar and it looks very sad. They would need to farm a lot of snow to keep that going another week. Lower Chute to the Bubble is looking very thin and needs farming to keep it open just for this weekend. Beer with Rusty then Sushi Yoshi, which has 4 beers from Hill Farmstead, Maine Lunch, a Four Quarters IPA, Foam Pils, and more. Highly recommend the HF APA.

Afternoon Report: Another good one with much better conditions on the ungroomed trails [the groomed ones were mostly just a mess in the afternoon].

Only Snowdon run was Chute -> Great Bear. Looked great from the lift and it was.

North Ridge; Powerline continues to be as good, or better, than Ridge Run.

Escapade fantastic and groomed Cascade so so. ROTD was Double Dipper with some sun peeking through. Almost as good was closing bell run on the other DD with, again, a bit of sun.

At Supe, Skyehawk, Middle O, Old Supe, Low Road, and Supe itself were the stars.
