monday 4/22 report

Post by skiadikt »

welcome to day one of superstar season (hopefully not). the sun found her way back to the mtn after abandoning us for a couple days. much colder than we've seen in quite a while. definitely didn't feel like spring.

mtn did a good job grooming. certainly the open terrain was very firm flat & fast but eminently edgeable. pretty damn loud. however after all the soft snow the last couple weeks, felt good arcing some high speed turns.

supe, lark, bitter and high road were the groomed routes. there was a groomed path heading towards needles but it was roped. ungroomed terrain like ovation was not roped but glistened in the sun. essentially ran a, b and c 4 times each before they started breaking down and calling it a morning. hooked up w rusty & liv4 for a bunch of runs. nothing to get excited about but a decent couple hrs.

Posting same time as skiadikt!
Decent line at first bell - conditions flat and fast, but very edgeable! Sup rotd! Wrotd - Launch Pad up over to lower Sup headwall - poor grooming causing stopage and others not being able to complete their ascend. Seems should not complain since so much snow, but it is also dangerous because you cannot see those coming down the headwall - a pole on the corner of top of Launch Pad and Sup headwall might help! Probably ok for midweek, but could become an issue beginning Friday when the weekend spring skiers arrive. And, for you smartalecs, we did climb around several times :P

Nice job Killington prepping the Sup pod trails, but there is way too much snow on other parts of the mountain to put so many people in one area and potential danger :? :-o

actually thought the rotd was that short dropoff just before the supe lift. yeah it was only 3 turns of creamy delight but sweet  .

agree launch pad cutting across below HW was a bit dangerous for both skiers attempting to get across and those coming down.

Ski’d 11-close.. Mountain started to soften a tad in the afternoon in spots. Soft corn moguls built on Lower Bitter and Lower Lark.. pretty pleasant. ROTD was middle-lower Supe at 3:55… the big yellow orb did a respectable job softening things enough to make it seem a little like spring.

Shout out to the group of green-circle snowboarders unable to negotiate the moguls approaching Upper Skyelark and Lower Bittersweet. One of them dropped his snowboard (they were walking Upper Skyelark) and it slammed into me before rocketing down Skyelark onto Bittersweet before going airborne and stopping, luckily without hitting/killing anyone. A K employee on a snow machine grabbed it… I flagged him down and explained that the guy who dropped it was a menace to everyone on the hill and himself and should have his pass pulled. Nothing happened… the dude and his group were on the hill for the rest of the day walking Upper Lark, face planting on Bitter, and falling for no reason in the lift line. Hope they’ve gone back to wherever they came from by tomorrow. Felt like I was at Mountain Creek today…

Out at the bell with GIS. Another race ski day in April. Firm and fast chadderoy.

Like SA mentioned. A,B and C. Nice to see everyone at the same chair. Gives you a variety of peeps to ride up with.

Took a lunch break and stayed out until 2:30 where some areas were almost good. Fun social skiing day.

Looks like the k1 will be running this weekend, which is the wish everyone wanted.
Where is Happy Hour ?
