Yeah but you have to look at the source, Its like last year when people were quoting mike moore as gospel and sh*t, who is really going to listen to anyone that far to the left and full of sh*t......or to the right for that matter.Cityskier wrote:shortski wrote:If anyone in the Senate had balls, anytime Kennedy stood up to talk they would shout Chappaquiddick and Easter at Palm Beach, biggest waste of protoplasm on the planet IMHO.
Kennedy passing moral judgment or for that matter any judgment is tantamount to the Devil calling someone evil.
Whatever dude. Kennedy wasn't the issue in this post. If you have anything remotely interesting to add regarding Mr. Santorum I would be all ears.
The people of PA must be proud.

Says senator owes victims apology
By Susan Milligan, Globe Staff | July 14, 2005
WASHINGTON -- In a rare personal rebuke of a colleague, Senator Edward M. Kennedy lambasted Senator Rick Santorum from the Senate floor yesterday, demanding an apology for the Pennsylvania Republican's online comments connecting Boston's ''liberalism" to the child sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic Church.
Case Closed, let not the facts obscure the intent
Case Closed? Put the brakes on for one second counselor!
Were Mr. Santorum's comments not inexcusable and worthy of a lambasting? Or do you agree that [from the article quoting Santorum] "It is no surprise that Boston, a seat of academic, political, and cultural liberalism in America, lies at the center of the storm" of the clergy sexual abuse scandal."
No comments on this? No comments about a member of the Senate, a devout Catholic no less, trivializing the heinousness of child abuse by blaming "liberalism" for what took place? I find it apalling.

I agree with that Pedro. But even removing Kennedy from the equation completely, I feel that what Santorum was alluding to was inexcusable. Kennedy piping in on moral issues may be hypocritical, but I don't feel it let's Santorum of the hook in this instance.

What Kennedy said was political, for sure, but at least I would've respected his "outrage" had he said it in 2002 not three years after the article was published.
What Santorum said was absurd and inexcusable, although it is the view of a number of people who make the connection between liberalism and an "anything goes" culture on the one hand, and homosexuality and pedophilia on the other. He is not alone in his view, however much you or I may disagree with it. However, I would've expected these public comments to come from someone like Pat Buchanan rather than Rick Santorum.

Though I wouldn't go as far as Senator Rick Santorum, in blaming solely Liberalism as the cause of the abuse, a point could be made as being a contributing factor. My response was at Kennedy, who should still be in jail not the Senate, and his commenting on Santorum's comments, and his posturing on the Senate floor.Cityskier wrote: No comments on this? I believe the "case was closed" about the time Bubba said Santorum made the statement 3 freakin years ago. If Teddy was so offended, why was he not squeelin like a pig 3 years ago? Why? Because Santorum has a new book out blasting Teddy's buddy Hillary. Time to circle the wagons of the Sociolist Liberals and blast any attack, whether it be this years attack or one 3 years ago.
Teddy has NO credibility, and anyone that has voted for that fat bastard has none either since Chapaquidic. He should have been removed from the Senate and locked up then. Oh, but he is a Kennedy, above the law, better than everyone else.

I believe the case never should've been opened. They both said what they said in order to gain political points, both 3 years ago and now. They should've both kept their mouths shut.Dr. NO wrote:I believe the "case was closed" about the time Bubba said Santorum made the statement 3 freakin years ago. ..just another example of typical politicians doing typical politician stuff.
Who remembers Santorum's bill which would have prohibited the NOAA and other government organizations from publishing weather forecasts for free because it competes with private weather providers such as Accuweather, which is based in Pennsylvania?
And don't get me started about Ted Kennedy..

Santorum v. Kennedy
While I haven't forgotten Kennedy's involvement in the drowning of his aide Maryjoe Kopeckne (sp?) and the "stain" it made on his character, and while I don't know anything at all about Santorum, I can not believe that Santorum would lay the clerical perverts scandal at the feet of liberals; nor that he would say it began in Boston. The USA, and the rest of the world too for that matter, has clerical perverts everywhere. The Catholic Church alone, has spent over $100,000,000 (if not more) paying off victims. None of that had anything to do with political philosophies. Many other denominations have had similar scandals. It is just that the Catholic Church is so large and so unified, that the press finds it an appealing target. That is not to say, that the "revelations" (pun intended) made by the press are untrue. It seems that people of "faith" blindly believe that their religious leaders are above human weaknesses and will close their eyes and minds to anything that threatens to contradict their beliefs. Sad. Making political points by alluding to these events is even sadder, and does nothing to correct the abuses in the future.

On a slightly diferent note, can someone from Mass explain how Ted Kennedy keeps getting re-elected? Are the people of Mass unable to tell him apart from Jack Kennedy? Does he spend so much on re-election that no contender has half a chance?
Because it certainly isn't his intellect or his character.

They like to be represented by overweight, bulbous nosed, bellicose, liberal people who share a first name with a discount airline and a last name with a revered, youthful, assassinated president?Mister Moose wrote:On a slightly diferent note, can someone from Mass explain how Ted Kennedy keeps getting re-elected? With apologies for continuing the hijack and digression of this thread, but I read this question an hour ago, and couldn't shake it off. I started by wondering what my Boston-bred, Irish-Catholic parents would say in reply if they were still alive...but couldn't quite channel an answer from them! Instead, I'll offer some observations, and preface them by saying that I think Ted Kennedy is a lying, hypocrital, piece of $hit.Bubba wrote:They like to be represented by overweight, bulbous nosed, bellicose, liberal people who share a first name with a discount airline and a last name with a revered, youthful, assassinated president?Mister Moose wrote:On a slightly diferent note, can someone from Mass explain how Ted Kennedy keeps getting re-elected? BUT - have you ever read "Angela's Ashes?" It amazed me when I read it...practically the story of my (extended) family. The Irish are fierce in their antagonistic, grudge-holding ways and the other side of that coin is their fierce loyalty.
In Boston, the Democratic party is the party of the working man...the party that saved them from "Irish Need Not Apply." When I was young and going off to vote, my father's advice was to "Vote Democrat. And if you don't know anything about the candidates, then just vote for an Irish name." He was a nice man...just had an incredibly ethnocentric view of the world.
I remember stories of John Kennedy knocking on doors in my parents' neighborhood...and then my mother working on his Congressional campaign. Do you remember the strategy of the Kennedy women and their "tea parties?" (If my parents were still alive they'd be 72 and 77...so there are a lot of their contemporaries still voting.)
Couple that personal perspective with the Democratic-party-as-savior-of-the-working class and you have a small sampling that might give you some perspective into an answer to your question.
(With apologies for the "blue book essay" tone of this reply! Do they still have "blue books" in college??)
Don't forget all the non English speaking people over on the Cape of Portugese background. Teddy sets them up pretty good with Fed $$$ and programs. I am sure he has sent $$$ down to the shores for the fishermen also. Pork has a way of buying votes.MarieM wrote:With apologies for continuing the hijack and digression of this thread, but I read this question an hour ago, and couldn't shake it off.
