From my seat in the chair, and based on what I think the "rules" of this post are as far as the Top 5 request goes:

1. Killington
2. Sugarbush
3. Sunday River
4. MRG
5. Magic, when it's good.

Disclaimer: I have never skied Cannon. Only skied the Loaf one trip when conditions were horrible [thaw/freeze].

Honorable Mention [especially being on the 365 Ikon pass:

- Loon. Midweek, on nice sunny day, when mountain is all open. Have never gotten there when nats were open.
- Stratton. Midweek. Great cruising on winter sunny day. Awesome on sunny spring corn. Woods are great if they get enough snow.
Goes to show, you don't never know

Don't you let that deal go down
Don't you let that deal go down

Looks like its going down no matter what I do !!!

Using those rules, my list would be

1. Anywhere, when it's good.
10. Everywhere, when it's bad

The illogical conclusion to this debate:
1. Ski Ward

The most valued factor for my criteria of rating areas is steepness, so Ski Ward is out for me, “back in the day” of 300 inch winters, Jay, Sugarbush, and MRG were tied for my favorite (if I was at any one of those, there was no way I would say one of the others was better) but then Jay added the Flyer lift, so Jay moved slightly to #1 for me. Much further down my list is #4 Cannon, and ever more further down is #5 K. After those five there’s a huge drop off to #6 & 7 for me (Stowe and Smuggs, which have a lot of positive attributes but the negatives out weigh them).

1. Saddleback - 2nd place well behind

2. Sugarbush
3. Sugarloaf
4. Stowe - was my long time #1 pre Vail. Wildcat was #2 for me pre Vail
5. Cannon

Sure the terrain isn't very exciting, but they have a great lift network and do a great job managing snow conditions on the hill. Town is great, too. Programs for my kids are also top notch.
Ellicottville is a suprisingly cool little ski town.
