How do you figure losses? Did they give away season passes this year?
Todays cost to operate exceeds that of todays income.

They only make money today, if they sell enough day tickets today to cover the cost of operating.

Seasons passes wre sold a long long time ago, and the money already gone into operating this season, and Skye Peak Express and so on....

They were going to close April 13. Staying open later didn't bring them more money from a pass they sold you 8 months ago.
There are plenty of midweek days during Nov-Mar where the cost to operate exceeds that of days income. Should Killington not open on those days skippy?

Especially at full capacity with dozens of lifts and multiple lodges vs 1 or 2 springtime lifts and a bathroom...

dude are thinking about what u are saying? just because season passes were sold "a long time ago" doesnt matter. 79 bones for a day ticket on saturday is nice but 700-1000 on a pass is A LOT OF MONEY. think about the big picture. i may have had my pass paid for by new years but how many "day-trippers" come up and spend that during the season at K? im not talking lodging, im talking on the mountain (tix, food, beer, etc.). maybe they lost some money today, but think how much they made from people over the holidays. you have ur good days and bad days. it really wouldnt "hurt" them to spin superstar for 3 more weekends. it would show that they give a crap about their passholders (which they really dont). at 6 days of a little loss, i bet its pennies compared to what they made already. i heard they made quite a bit of money this season (like 10mil).

If you heard like 10 mil, how much do you think is left after $8.4 M in upgrades, million+ in maintenance?

Traffic is way, way down.

I am looking at the big picture. I couldn't type everything I wanted to/shoulda.

I am at less then $10 a day for my skiing this season. . .

It'll be very busy at Sugarbush next week and I doubt they'll be losing, losing, losing. Guess those folks have more skill at managing a ski business up there. At $29, you should check it out

No one will ever mistake you for a Wharton grad. I suggest staying away from discussing financial issues.

Excellent point. It might r*in someday, so there's no reason to ski Sugarbush/Jay/Sugarloaf now. Thanks for setting me straight - what was I thinking?

I was just mentioning a point ol' Win made around a week.5 ago, regarding Sugarbushs closing. He said they could not commit yet, because hes seen what one foggy or r*ining day has done to snowpack. They were reporting over 6' of snow still on their trails, extra snowmaking done on several runs for the spring, and a well above average snowfall this season, but they weren't sure if they could possibly some way, some how try and stay open to the 27th of April.

Actually, you weren't, skippy, b/c Win was referring to Castlerock, not the mountain as a whole. They've already announced they're staying open through the 27th, and possibly longer on weekends dependings on snowpack and business volumes.

WRONG.

This was when Sugarbush announced that if some way, some how, they could possibly have enough cover to try and stay open till April 27, with over 6 feet of snow on the ground, and extra snowmaking for the spring, and well above average snowfall, that they may try and do it, weather permitting.

"I am probably older than you and thus have seen more weather, and I know what a spring sun and warm r*in and fog can do very quickly, so I am not going to promise a sure thing when I can not control what Mother Nature does. That said, the odds favor being open on Sunday, April 27th."
