I think I answered that question in my comments on Vietnam era desertion and draft dodging but...XtremeJibber2001 wrote:Once a member of the armed forces, do you still have the right to speak out against the homeland and desert your duty?Bubba wrote:Ain't that the truth. 1. Grasshopper, you are confused by too much right wing nonsense. Speaking out in disagreement with government policy is not "speaking out against the homeland".
2. A member of the military still has the right to vote. A member of the military may still speak out against government policy unless, of course, the military has generic rules limiting what can and can't be said while in uniform. I'm sure they do, although I don't know what they are.
3. Nobody has the "right" to desert. If you desert the military, there are penalties.

#2 can be very limited while in Uniform. If I recall correctly, you may not demonstrate in Uniform, and in some cases, not at all. I believe you are not allowed to make open statements against MILITARY policy, but probably can make statements regarding Government policy and actions. YOU MAY NOT MAKE STATEMENTS ABOUT OFFICERS AND THE COMMANDER AND CHEIF. If enforced, these may be cause for Article 15 or Courts Marshall punishments.Bubba wrote:I think I answered that question in my comments on Vietnam era desertion and draft dodging but...XtremeJibber2001 wrote:Once a member of the armed forces, do you still have the right to speak out against the homeland and desert your duty?Bubba wrote:Ain't that the truth. #3, can normally be dealt with by dishonorable discharge, which really can screw once civilian life up. But, in a crisis period or war time, it may be dealt with using the Courts Marshall which usually would end with a free trip to Fort Levenworth, KS with free accomodations and escort courtousy of the US Marine Corp. Then dishonorable discharge.

You know you have an outstanding vocabulary and a way of writing that I can only hope to achieve. Yet you still use 'name calling' and 'cursing' which in my opinion destroys the content of some of your posts. Just thought I'd share that with you.Cityskier wrote:LOL. Some of the World's most widely known activists and public speakers were able to show their passion about something without cursing and calling people names.

You either support this kind of behaviour (As you supported NancyKKK's racist posts) or you don't...

I will defend the right of both of you to act like assholes and to curse, or not to curse, when arguing your generally f*** ed up opinions. I don't know what to tell you XJ. I don't post here in attempts to sway opinions or endear myself with the readers. I find these chats a healthy outlet to discuss politics during some very fcuked up times. Yes, I could have said "horrifying" times or "scary" times, but I think "fcuked up" does our current state of affairs the most justice.XtremeJibber2001 wrote:You know you have an outstanding vocabulary and a way of writing that I can only hope to achieve. My dear old pal Shatski likes to take a page out of the Bush administration playbook and use distraction techniques rather that deal with the reality of what's going on from Washington to Afghanistan to Iraq and Iran. I'd venture to compare his focus on my vocabulary to our government harping on security and the concocted "War on Terror" while they commit countless dastardly deeds of varying despicability -- from trampling our constitutional rights to filling caskets as a result of this sad charade of a war. There are certainly things worth fighting and dying for, but if that was the case in Iraq our objective for being there wouldn't move from WMDs to a ludicrous tie to 9-11 to removing a dictator to delivering democracy depending on the approval ratings of our president. If our reason for being there constantly changing isn't enough of a tell-tale sign to the American people that something is terribly wrong then we deserve what we're getting.
The irony of what has been done, to me at least, is that we have sacrificed 2500+ lives and counting, spent countless billions of dollars further bankrupting our future, and destroyed our credibility with much of the world due to the misguided zealotry of our president in response to what was a horrific act of terrorism on our soil. But look at the price we have paid and ask yourself if the resources used were used efficiently to promote our safety. Does 2800 military deaths avenging 2800 civilian deaths make sense when the primary focus of our military operations isn't pointed at the people who bombed us?
It's insane and it unapologetically makes me want to say sh!t, and damn, and what the f@ck are we doing. Feel free to focus on those three words if you want to. I really don't care. I just can't ignore what's really going on.
