Limbaugh held for having Viagra without prescription
WEST PALM BEACH, Florida (AP) -- Rush Limbaugh was detained for about 3 1/2 hours at Palm Beach International Airport after authorities said they found a bottle of Viagra in his possession without a prescription.
The 55-year-old radio commentator's luggage was examined by U.S. Customs and Border Protection after his private plane landed at the airport around 2 p.m. from the Dominican Republic, said Paul Miller, spokesman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
Customs officials found in Limbaugh's luggage a prescription bottle labeled as Viagra, a prescription drug that treats erectile disfunction, Miller said.
"The problem was that on the bottle itself was not his name, but the name of two Florida doctors," Miller said.
The matter was turned over to the sheriff's office, whose investigators interviewed Limbaugh.
"He said he had the Viagra in his possession for his use and that he did obtain it from his doctors," Miller said.
Sheriff's investigators confiscated the drugs, and Limbaugh was released around 5:30 p.m. without being charged.
However, the sheriff's office plans to file a report with the state attorney's office.
"We believe there may be a second degree misdemeanor violation, which is possession of certain drugs without a prescription, because the bottle does not have his name on it," Miller said.
A doctor had prescribed the drug, but it was "labeled as being issued to the physician rather than Mr. Limbaugh for privacy purposes," Roy Black, Limbaugh's attorney, said in a statement.
Last month, Limbaugh reached a deal with prosecutors who had accused the conservative talk-show host of illegally deceiving multiple doctors to receive overlapping pain pill prescriptions. Under the deal, a single charge commonly referred to as "doctor shopping" would be dismissed after 18 months if he complies with terms that include submitting to random drug tests and continuing treatment for his acknowledged addiction to painkillers.

Pathetic of the customs people to pull that crap. You can make a phone call to some Dr. at any time and they will prescribe any of those drugs to you over the phone. Yeah, you get a script, but you never actually saw the dr. Someone had it out for him. How many times do you transfer your script drugs to a different container when traveling? I do that all the time and NOBODY asks squat.

It's illegal to carry a bottle of prescription medication when the prescription isn't for you?
So if I'm making a run to the drug store and as a favor for the old guy down the street I pick up his prescription for him I can be arrested?
That somehow makes no sense to me.

A good friend of mine works for US Customs here at Burlington airport and you wouldn't believe the protocol they have to follow for inbound international flights. I disagree with your assessment of them as "Pathetic", the little things count too, afterall it is the objective of your political party to keep this country free and safe from terrorism. If we start overlooking the little things who's to say that will not trickle down to the larger more important aspects of US Customs.Dr. NO wrote:Pathetic of the customs people to pull that crap. PRIVATE international flights are a bit different, unless you happen to be Rush Limbaugh.RJSVermont wrote:A good friend of mine works for US Customs here at Burlington airport and you wouldn't believe the protocol they have to follow for inbound international flights. AND, Viagra? give me a break. you can buy cigarettes from anywhere in the world. drugs come in every day. They make a big deal about VIAGRA? Must have been a slow day, or Rush was a targeted name.

I don't think they are all that much different. If that were the case then what's stopping terrorists from bringing potentially harmfull materials into the USA on a, ahem, private flight?Dr. NO wrote:PRIVATE international flights are a bit different, unless you happen to be Rush Limbaugh.RJSVermont wrote:A good friend of mine works for US Customs here at Burlington airport and you wouldn't believe the protocol they have to follow for inbound international flights. If anything customs busts your balls more if you fly yourself. I've flown myself
internationally (if you want to consider Canada international) several times. In all
cases US customs upon return to the U.S. - through Burlington - broke my stones
mercilessly. They stopped just short of taking a wrench to the airplane.

Chances are that I know a couple of the guys you're talking about and believe me, they take their jobs and the security of this country seriously. I hear plenty of stories about smooth talking pilots (Mostly of the Canadian variety) trying to talk their way out of customs protocol.BigKahuna13 wrote:No they're not.Dr. NO wrote:

If anything, the doctor who prescribed the Viagra and put his own name on it instead of Rush's would be breaking the law.
A doctor can actually prescribe drugs in this manner if it's documented correctly and it's consentual between the doctor and his client. Where, How, and What law is being broke by Rush personally?
