More of the decimation - Wednesday

Post by buzzkill »

Beautiful spring day, cool breeze was welcome but things are in a sorry state.
Ram was like December Berkshire skiing, 2" of solid frozen granular base.
Headed over to Bear for some hopeful softening up. Needles is shot,
Cruise Control was like Ram.
Skyeburst was softening and granular bumps as was Viper Pit and lower
Bear Claw.
Bear Trap was back to the early season death slid status, scraped
off and no help from the sun.
Upper Wildfire is gone but the lower was soft sugar bumps.
ROTD was Dreammaker when it just opened, poached the rope to
Grizzly, soft corn all the way down. OL closed as was most of the Canyon.
Ram was mush after lunch as was Bunny Buster. Upper Chute was
softening but still closed. Mouse Trap despite being in the sun was still
frozen solid and scraped off. Went back to Ram for a couple to end
the day, Swirl was best with some grainy bumps down the middle.
The air is cool but the sun is strong and continuing the meltdown
and evaporation.

Not good for skiing now, but somewhat good for our chances of seeing things last.

Exactly millerm, conditions today are pretty sorry . . . but willing to take the crap today to save some snow for the rest of the season. We had both conditions - MrG loves the Polish powder    - which we found at Bear . . . and I prefer the slicker edgeable stuff off the Superstar chair . . . oh well, we got the best of both and enjoy the day since we had not been out in three days because of the head cold that hit both of us :(

Not looking good unless we see some natural . . . because K will not be making any more snow :(

Rumor is the K employee party is tonight at the KBL and Powdr is making an appearance - maybe we'll hear more tomorrow from someone who attended the K soiree :)

I don't believe the Powdr folks are coming in until Friday from Utah.

yeah, Susoo wanted to hit Ram some more and it was firming up.
it was good meeting you. where did you go after Snowdon?

Canyon, SSQ area will hold up a while, maybe the freeze up will buy us
another week of Bear, the rest, ta ta.

I will be the optimist and say that we are going to get a big snowstorm in the next two weeks, and I'll get to hit the South Ridge again.

I hope you're right, but you'll have a long walk out. Once they shutdown
those Bear chairs, heaven and earth or three feet of new snow won't
get them back on again, it's cut and run time for ASC.

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.

That's what two cars are for....gives me at least one run at the end of the day.

Either that or if we got a real amount of snow I wouldn't have a problem with skiing down and hiking up Wanderer, then over to the Skyeship>K-1, repeat.

rime>racers edge>highline was an okay ride, did that three times. the great northern (out of cheyenne)>mouse trap> lower bunny twice. upper bunny three times on the poma and two runs off the glades chair. That was pretty much my ski day today. What can i say, i got there at 2:00 and the K1 doesn't exactly move like it does midwinter or on weekends. Funny thing is you know when spring is here when you get those lanes that get scraped down to the base by people slideslipping and snowolowing. there was one to the right of center on lower bunny, otherwise it's all sloppy, cruddy, used snow.
It was nice to meet you too.

I'll guess it probably isn't too terrible....doesn't usually melt off very quickly, and doesn't get a ton of traffic, especially when the woods are closed.

I'm thinking Hunter is looking better than Killington right now.

Look at the base on Hellgate...
