Campaign to get Killington to stay open longer and wider
Since nobody important at Killington reads this site, please go over to their facebook page, like them (I know, it's tough) and politely petition them to stay open longer and/or keep more lifts spinning if the conditions permit. It might be fruitless, but you never know till you try. Unique, constructive suggestions would be good... some of us *may* just be smarter than the folks that run the joint.
Edit: And once you "like" them, you can sign up for a free 2 for 1 ticket (and some Drift spam).

Never argue with idiots. They will bring you down to their level, then overwhelm you with their experience.

Bump. Make your voice heard. We have a chance to get some add'l terrain this weekend.
Re: Campaign to get Killington to stay open longer and wider
I've been thinking about this. May be worthwhile to start a Facebook page that in effect is a petition to ask them to open. Ask folks to share it. If they see numbers, may convince them.
Re: Campaign to get Killington to stay open longer and wider
Facebook page started, let spread it around and show them how much interest there is in spring skiing: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Keep-Kil ... 52?sk=wall

Well, doesn't hurt to try and get the word out there to let them know there is an interest. Facebook has been a good tool for doing things such as this. I figure if enough people get on and in a civilized manner let them know there is an interest, perhaps they'll listen.BoozeTan wrote:good idea, will it do any good? prob not but Ill post anyway

My Comment posted on their BMMC shout out:
GREAT VIBE! This should inspire hundreds, if not thousands, of folks to come to Killington and ski those bumps this coming weekend. Bear Mountain will be open this coming weekend right?

Although I have heard it here before, it was not until this weekend that I heard it from the mountain. Their feeling is that staying open will only benefit season pass holders that have already paid their dollars to K. What the mountain wants, i.e. what they need to justify staying open longer and wider, is more people buying daily tickets this time of year. We all already know how great it is to ski in the Spring. We need to get all those Christmas and President week skiers to start spending their Spring Breaks up at K, too, if we want to give K a financial incentive to be open. I say they need to advertise Spring Skiing @ K to the masses. Then we would all benefit. Meanwhile, we need to stop preaching to the converted, and start preaching to everyone else! The Facebook page seems like a good start.
Re: Campaign to get Killington to stay open longer and wider
I remember seeing plenty of day tickets on the hill in May...
Re: Campaign to get Killington to stay open longer and wider
Let me ask this, how much is spent on advertising? At this point not sure if they're turning a profit or not, I'm sure they can with cut back operations. But this time of year instead of looking at cost as an operations cost/profit, they should look at it as an advertising cost. Nothing new, but that's what always made them stand out from the rest. This year pass prices have gone up again. I was on the fence if I want to get a Killington pass or perhaps a Whiteface/Gore pass which is far cheaper, wife pushed me on the Killington side :). However, if they stay open as long as they can, there would be no fence, there would be no thinking about it.Ski_the_Moguls wrote:Although I have heard it here before, it was not until this weekend that I heard it from the mountain. Re: Campaign to get Killington to stay open longer and wider
BMMC used to be the advertising for spring skiing at Killington. I'd have at least a dozen friends (if not way more) who don't regularly ski come to BMMC to watch people ski and crash while tailgating and partying in the sun and staying at local hotels for the weekend. It regularly brought them back for another weekend that same spring, and typically another weeekend early season. It was the best advertising program out there and POWDr killed it. Spring skiing hasn't been the same since the downfall of BMMC. People just don't get to see what fun moguls can really be, at a time when they are easiest to ski, and the crashes hurt the least. BMMC on a cold rainy March day with no crowds just isn't the same wow, and the spring skiing numbers support that. I can almost guarantee, if POWDr had the balls to work out insurance and liquor commission issues to return BMMC to its glory, spring skiing and its profitablity would return to Killington...Ski_the_Moguls wrote:Although I have heard it here before, it was not until this weekend that I heard it from the mountain. Posted and Shared thank you very large. Bring back the King of Spring.
As for day tickets, if they stay open people from other areas flock to Killington for Spring Corn and tailgating. They used to sell Spring passes which were very popular especially after Hunter, Whiteface, Gore and other areas closed. Now? We go to Sugarbush and Jay until they close instead of bringing people to Killington.
