Fatality on the Mountain Today (Dec 12)

Post by ski »

Unconfirmed story of a death today.

21 year old woman skiing with friends. They lost track of her, waited for her at the bottom, circled back around a few more times, couldn't find her..... Patrol found her off the trail..

KILLINGTON, Vt. -
Vermont State Police are investigating what killed a skier at Killington.

Ski patrol found the body of 21-year-old Jennifer Strohl off the Great Northern trail around 5 p.m. Thursday night.

Friends of the Pennsylvania woman reported her missing some 6 hours earlier, after they became separated skiing at the resort.

Police say she suffered a head injury after what they call an apparent collision. Strohl was not wearing a helmet.

Her death does not appear suspicious.

I wonder if she was wearing a helmet if she would still be alive.

That really sux. I feel for the family, friends, and everyone that knew her. I don't know anything about this situation, other than GN is a beginner trail, and I realized that one thing that Killington could do for beginners (and really all skiers) is when they rent a package; boots, poles, bindings, throw in a helmet for free. Get new skiers used to the idea of wearing a helmet. Make up the money some other way.

I was thinking about the helmets. I would probably want to buy one rather than renting because of the possibility of getting parasites in my head. I wonder if that's the reason why renting helmets is so limited. I remember trying to rent a helmet for my friend's kid a while ago and the shop I tried wouldn't rent. Maybe cheap helmets is the solution.

I always wear a helmet and highly recommend one at all times. I know it can't protect you from all head impacts, but every little bit of safety helps. We would have to see more info to determine whether a helmet would've helped. I'm wondering if the 6 hours it took to find her played a major part in this horrible outcome? Just so very very sad.....

pretty sure MTB helmets are available for rental at K during summer...my MTB helmet sure gets a lot sweatier than my ski helmet!!! Fortunately it has a removable liner...not sure why they don;t rent or include helmets w the package...
